North Haven Sends Five Swimmers to the State Open

The North Haven girls’ swimming and diving team had five athletes compete in the State Open Championship at Cornerstone Aquatic Center in West Hartford on Nov. 21. North Haven scored 34 points as a squad and finished in 33rd place in the State Open standings.

Junior Mikayla Rapuano swam in a pair of individual events for North Haven at the Open. Rapuano finished in 17th place in the 100 butterfly (59.16) and came in 24th place for the 100 backstroke (1:02.20). Rapuano had previously finished sixth in the 100 butterfly (59.67) at the SCC Championship and then claimed second at the Class M State Championship (58.63), where North Haven finished second as a team. Rapuano also finished fourth in the 100 backstroke by swimming a time of 1:01.93 at the Class M meet.

North Haven’s 200 medley relay of Rapuano, junior Alice Scalmani, senior Giulia Faulkner, and senior Grace Finch finished in 18th place with a time of 1:54.52 at the State Open. The quartet had previously finished in fifth at SCCs (1:55.21) and fourth in Class M (1:54.18).

Also at the Open, North Haven’s 400 freestyle relay team of Rapuano, senior Taya Laborde, Faulkner, and Scalmani finished in 20th place by posting a mark of 3:46.44. The team had previously taken fifth place at the SCC meet (3:50.95) and third in the Class M meet (3:46.45).
