H-K Swims in State Meet

The Haddam-Killingworth girls’ swimming team was represented by several athletes when the Class S State Championship meet took place last week. The Cougars finished in 11th place with 175 points scored for the state meet at Cornerstone Aquatic Center in West Hartford on Nov. 17.

Senior Jackie Flaherty recorded a pair of top-10 finishes for H-K at the Class S Championship. Flaherty finished seventh in the 200-yard individual medley by swimming a time of 2:22.65. Then in the 100 butterfly, Flaherty swam a time of 1:02.10 to take 10th place for the event.

H-K’s 400 freestyle relay of junior Johanna Houska, junior Aleia Goodison, freshman Olivia Macaluso, and Flaherty finished in 10th place (4:07.76) at the state meet. The 200 medley relay of junior Kristen Thebeau, junior Erin Marica, Houska, and Macaluso claimed 11th place (2:08.65). H-K’s 200 freestyle relay of Houska, sophomore Layla Hayward, sophomore Peyton Tyler, and Flaherty finished in 12th place (1:54.87).

Macaluso finished 13th in the 100 backstroke (1:07.50) and placed 18th in the 100 freestyle (59.40) for the Cougars. Marica finished 16th for the 500 freestyle (5:48.60) and took 21st place in the 100 breaststroke (1:24.32).

Thebeau finished 22nd in the 100 backstroke (1:10.59) for H-K in states. Houska finished in 24th place (2:37.97) in the 200 IM.
