H-K Football Takes Loss to SMSA


The Haddam-Killingworth football team traveled to Hartford to take on the Sport & Medical Sciences Academy (SMSA) Co-op for a Pequot Conference game on Nov. 19. The Cougars took a 46-6 loss to the Tigers at Annie Fisher Field to move to 2-7 heading into their season finale versus Valley Regional- Old Lyme.

SMSA scored the first three touchdowns of the game to take an 18-0 lead over H-K. The Cougars got on the board when junior Alex Phipps threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to senior Matteo Piacenti to make it 18-6 in the second quarter. SMSA came back with one more score before halftime to take a 26-6 lead into the break.

The Tigers scored the only touchdown of the third quarter to bring a 32-6 lead into the fourth. SMSA added two TDs during the final frame to finish off the 46-6 victory.

H-K finished the 2021 season by facing Valley Regional-Old Lyme in the annual battle for the Principal’s Cup on Nov. 23 (after press time). Valley-Old Lyme came into game with a record of 3-6 on the year.
