Warriors Ready to Compete in Shorelines

Girls’ Volleyball

The Valley Regional girls’ volleyball team won its last two matches of the regular season last week to post a record of 12-8. The Warriors are playing in the Shoreline Conference Tournament this week and then have states after that.

In its first match of the week, Valley claimed a 3-0 (25-13, 25-7, 25-20) road victory over Innovation on Oct. 29. The very next day, the Warriors hosted Wamogo and won the match by a 3-0 (25-8, 25-8, 25-14) score.

Valley is the No. 5 seed in the Shoreline Conference Tournament and played at No. 4 Coginchaug in the first round on Nov. 1 (after press time). If the Warriors won, they would play at No. 1 seed Haddam- Killingworth in the semifinals on Nov. 3 (after press time). The Shoreline final will be held at the Morgan School in Clinton on Friday, Nov. 5 at 6 p.m.

Following Shorelines, Valley will be participating in the Class M State Tournament that opens up on Monday, Nov. 8 and culminates with the title game at East Haven High School on Saturday, Nov. 20.

Field Hockey

Following an undefeated regular season, the Valley Regional field hockey team spent last week preparing to compete in this week’s Shoreline Conference Tournament. The Warriors, who posted a mark of 15-0-1 in the regular season, will be playing in states after Shorelines are finished.

Valley is the No. 1 seed in the Shoreline Conference bracket. The Warriors hosted No. 4 Westbrook-Old Lyme for a semifinal game on Nov. 1 (after press time). With a win, Valley would face the winner of No. 2 North Branford and No. 3 Old Saybrook in the Shoreline final at the Indian River Complex in Clinton on Thursday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m.

When the Shoreline tourney is complete, Valley Regional will compete in the Class S State Tournament. The tournament begins on Monday, Nov. 8 and will finish with the championship game on Saturday, Nov. 20 at Wethersfield High School.

Boys’ Soccer

The Valley Regional boys’ soccer team had a bye through the first round of the Shoreline Conference Tournament that got underway last week. The Warriors, who went 11-4-1 in the regular season, will open play in Shorelines with a semifinal game this week.

No. 2 seed Valley Regional hosted No. 3 Morgan in the Shoreline Conference semifinals on Nov. 2 (after press time). If the Warriors won that game, they will face the winner of top-seeded Old Saybrook and No. 4 Portland in the Shoreline final on Friday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.

Following Shorelines, Valley will compete in the Class S State Tournament. The tournament begins on Saturday, Nov. 6 and will run through the championship game at Dillon Stadium in Hartford on either Saturday, Nov. 20 or Sunday, Nov. 21.

Girls’ Soccer

The Valley Regional girls’ soccer team completed its regular season by playing a pair of away games last week. The Warriors took losses against Coginchaug and Canton to finish with a regular-season record of 5-8-3.

On Oct. 25, Valley traveled to Durham to face Coginchaug and lost a 1-0 decision to the Blue Devils. Three days later, the Warriors played a road game versus non-conference opponent Canton and took a 3-1 defeat in their regular-season finale.

Valley is competing in the Class M State Tournament that begins this week. The tournament opens up on Saturday, Nov. 6 and will finish with the title game on either Saturday, Nov. 20 or Sunday, Nov. 21 at Dillon Stadium in Hartford.
