North Haven Volleyball Wins SCC Opener; Girls’ Soccer Makes States

Girls’ Volleyball

The North Haven girls’ volleyball team finished off its regular season with two wins and then claimed a victory in the first round of the SCC Tournament last week. North Haven has an overall record of 17-4 as it gets ready to play its SCC quarterfinal matchup this week.

North Haven kicked off its week by earning a 3-1 (19-25, 25-16, 25-16, 25-20) road win versus Jonathan Law on Oct. 25. Senior Hannah Auddino handed out 41 assists to go with two digs and one ace in the victory. Fellow senior Caroline Toni posted 17 kills with six digs and two aces for North Haven. Junior Kayla Balisciano finished the match with 16 kills, four digs, and two aces.

Two days later, North Haven hosted West Haven for its regular-season finale and won the match by a 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-18) score. Auddino had 24 assists and five aces, while Toni recorded seven kills with six digs and four aces for North Haven. Junior Sophia Vauiso had chipped in with five kills in the win.

Then on Oct. 29, No. 3 seed North Haven opened play in the SCC Tournament by hosting No. 14 Sacred Heart Academy for a first-round match. North Haven claimed a 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-9) victory over Sacred Heart Academy to advance into the quarterfinal round. Auddino had 28 assists with three digs, two aces, and one kill for North Haven. Junior Maren Hill posted nine kills, and Vauiso had six kills in the victory.

North Haven faced No. 6 Mercy in the quarterfinals of the SCC Tournament on Nov. 2 (after press time). With a win, North Haven would play the winner of No. 2 seed Amity and No. 7 Jonathan Law in the semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 4. The SCC final takes place at East Haven High School on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 6:30 p.m.

Following SCCs, North Haven will compete in the Class L State Tournament. The tournament gets underway on Monday, Nov. 8 and runs through the championship match at East Haven High School on Saturday, Nov. 20.

Girls’ Soccer

The North Haven girls’ soccer team qualified for the Class L State Tournament by winning its final game of the regular season last week. After losing to West Haven to start the week, North Haven claimed a 9-0 victory versus Career-Hillhouse on Senior Night to punch its ticket into states this year.

North Haven opened its week by taking a 2-0 loss to West Haven in a road game on Oct. 25. Two days later, North Haven hosted Career-Hillhouse for its regular-season finale and prevailed by a 9-0 score to notch its seventh win and qualify for the Class L State Tournament.

Senior Ada Forbes celebrated Senior Night by scoring six goals in the game to give her 25 on the season. North Haven also honored seniors Annalise Moulis and Sophia Chagnon as part of the Senior Night festivities.

Moulis scored North Haven’s first goal of the game on an assist by Forbes, who followed by netting a pair of goals to give her team a 3-0 lead just minutes into the game. Junior Giavanna Damone had the assist on the first goal and then scored on a penalty shot to make it 4-0.

Sophomore Cameron Ryan scored on an assist from junior Lily Coish in the 17th minute. That assist marked Coish’s 17th helper of the year.

After that, Forbes scored four-consecutive goals to give North Haven a 9-0 advantage at halftime. Sophomore Rebecca Ford, freshman Andrea August, sophomore Molly Marottolo, and Damone had the assist on Forbes’s quartet of scores.

Boys’ Soccer

The North Haven boys’ soccer team gained a split in its last two matchups of the regular season last week. North Haven earned a win versus Sheehan and took a loss against Branford to finish with a record of 5-10-1.

On Oct. 25, North Haven hosted Sheehan and earned a 1-0 win over the Titans. Two days later, North Haven played a home game versus Branford and lost to the Hornets 4-1.

Field Hockey

The North Haven field hockey team took two defeats during the final week of its regular season to finish with a record of 4-9-2-1 for the campaign. North Haven lost contests against Hand and Shelton to close out the season.

On Oct. 25, North Haven played a road game versus Hand and took a 6-0 defeat to the Tigers. Two days later, North Haven was back on the road to face Shelton in its season finale. North Haven lost a 2-0 decision to the Gaels at Shelton High School on Oct. 27.
