Old Saybrook Boys’ Soccer Enjoys a Four-Win Week; Cross Country Runs at Wickham Invite

Boys’ Soccer

The Old Saybrook boys’ soccer team had a packed scheduled with four games on the slate and notched victories in all four contests to improve its record to 12-0-1 this season.

Old Saybrook started off its week by claiming a 3-0 win at Norwich Free Academy on Oct. 11. Two days later, the Rams were on the road to face North Branford and won the contest by a 7-0 score. Then on Oct. 15, Old Saybrook hosted Coginchaug and claimed a 6-1 victory over the Blue Devils. The following day, the Rams played a home game against East Lyme and triumphed by a 2-0 final.

Field Hockey

The Old Saybrook field hockey team took two defeats last week and now has a record of 9-3-1 on the year.

The Rams took a 3-0 road loss versus North Branford in their first game of the week on Oct. 11. Three days later, Old Saybrook hosted Valley Regional and lost to the Warriors by a 1-0 final.

Football

The Old Saybrook-Westbrook (OS-W) football team hosted Gilbert-Northwestern-Housy (G-N-H) for a Saturday morning matchup on Oct. 16. The Rams took a 42-0 loss against G-N-H to move to 0-4 on the season.

The next game for OS-W is a road tilt versus Cromwell-Portland on Friday, Oct. 22. The contest kicks off at 6 p.m. at Pierson Park in Cromwell.

Girls’ Cross Country

The Old Saybrook girls’ cross country squad finished in fourth place when it competed at the Wickham Invitational on Oct. 9. The Rams tallied a team score of 144 points to take fourth place among 15 clubs in the small schools race at Wickham State Park in Manchester.

Junior Catherine Minegar delivered Old Saybrook’s top performance for the 5K race by finishing in 13th place with a time of 22:02. Sophomore Carlina Castro finished in 16th place with a time of 22:31, and junior Vikki Carrica ran a time of 23:05 to take 33rd place for the Rams.

Freshman Cat Pammond finished in 63rd place (24:14), while senior Caitlin Wiley took 66th place (24:30) on behalf of Old Saybrook at the Wickham Invite. Freshman Ceyden Ratineri finished in 127th place with a time of 29:51.

Boys’ Cross Country

The Old Saybrook boys’ cross country team sent several runners to compete at the Wickham Invitational at Wickham State Park in Manchester on Oct. 9. The Rams scored 207 points as a squad to finish in ninth place out of 16 teams in the small schools race.

Sophomore Parker Cook turned in Old Saybrook’s best showing by taking 13th place with a time of 17:54 for the 5K race. Fellow sophomore Nwang Choegyal came in 36th place by crossing the finish line in 19:00.

Junior Logan Worman finished in 63rd place (20:05) for the Rams, while freshman Everett Miller finished in 72nd place (20:15). Senior Zachary Nichols finished in 76th place (20:20), junior Tyler Milardo-Denle came in 95th place (20:45), and junior Andrew Julius finished in 122nd place (22:15) for Old Saybrook.
