The Valley Regional field hockey team had two games on its schedule last week and came away with shutout wins in both contests to improve its unblemished record to 10-0-1 in the 2021 season. The Warriors notched a victory over Westbrook-Old Lyme and then defeated Woodstock Academy in last week’s action.
Valley started off its week by claiming a 4-0 win against Westbrook-Old Lyme in a home game on Oct. 7. Senior Mia Alio scored two goals for Valley in the victory. Senior Abba Amara had a goal with an assist, freshman Lilly Lavigne scored a goal, sophomore Clara Shea contributed an assist, and senior Margaret Jacaruso also had an assist. The Warriors played such a strong game that junior goalie Fallyn Belisle didn’t even have to face a single shot in net in the contest.
Two days later, Valley hit the road to face Woodstock Academy and claimed a 12-0 victory against the Centaurs in a non-conference game. Shea netted three goals and dished out three assists for the Warriors. Senior Ellie Rybicki-Domler scored three goals, Amara had two goals with three assists, and Alio scored a pair of goals in the blowout. Lavigne had a goal with two assists, junior Emily Kateley also recorded a goal and two assists, and junior Maddie Rice added an assist. Belisle made one save to get the shutout in goal.
Girls’ Volleyball
The Valley Regional girls’ volleyball team had a packed schedule with four road matches in a five-day stretch last week. The Warriors picked up one win on the week to move to 5-8 for the season.
On Oct. 4, Valley took a 3-2 defeat at Old Lyme. The following day, the Warriors faced Coginchaug on the road and dropped a 3-1 decision.
The day after that, the Warriors took a 3-0 loss at Ledyard in a non-conference matchup. Then on Oct. 8, Valley finished its busy week by claiming a 3-2 victory versus Morgan in another road match.
Boys’ Soccer
The Valley Regional boys’ soccer squad hit pitch to play two games last week and came away from the stretch with a pair of victories. The Warriors stand at 6-3-1 on the season after shutting out Coginchaug and defeating Cromwell in last week’s contests.
In its first game of the week, Valley traveled to Durham to square off against Coginchaug. The Warriors notched a 4-0 shutout victory over the Blue Devils to put their fifth win of the year in the books.
Valley went on to host Cromwell for a Saturday night matchup on Oct. 9. The Warriors claimed a 5-1 win over the Panthers under the lights at Valley Regional High School.
Girls’ Soccer
The Valley Regional girls’ soccer team moved to 4-3-1 on the season after taking a loss and earning a tie in a pair of road games last week. The Warriors lost to Cromwell before drawing against Ledyard in recent action.
On Oct. 7, Valley played a non-conference game at Cromwell and dropped a 1-0 decision to the Panthers. Then on Oct. 9, the Warriors were back on the road to face Ledyard and the contest ended in a 0-0 tie.
