Old Saybrook Field Hockey Defeats Westbrook-Old Lyme; Boys’ Soccer Earns Two Wins and a Tie

Field Hockey

The Old Saybrook field hockey team moved to 7-1-1 on the season after splitting a pair of games last week. The Rams took a one-goal loss to Valley Regional before earning a shutout win versus Westbrook-Old Lyme in recent action.

Old Saybrook took its first defeat of the season when the Rams lost by a 2-1 score at Valley Regional on Sept. 27. Valley scored the first goal of the game with 1:18 remaining in the second quarter. The Warriors then scored another goal in the third quarter to make it 2-0.

Old Saybrook countered with a goal by senior Grace Adams on an assist from fellow senior Alexa Coty one minute later to cut the deficit to 2-1. This marked the first goal that Valley had allowed all season, but the Warriors were still able to hang on for the 2-1 victory. Junior goalie Kate Molesky made seven saves in net for Old Saybrook.

Three days later, Old Saybrook got back in the win column when it claimed a 7-0 road victory versus Westbrook-Old Lyme at Westbrook High School. Adams scored two goals for the Rams, who were bolstered by one assist apiece from senior Libby Stuart, senior Mackenna Cooke, Coty, senior Kayla Chacon, and freshman Amelia Sigersmith. Stuart and Adams each had one assist in the win. Molesky made four saves in goal for the Rams.

Boys’ Soccer

The Old Saybrook boys’ soccer team earned two wins and a tie between its three games last week to improve its record to 6-0-1 on the year. The Rams defeated Valley Regional and Canton and also played Morgan to a draw in last week’s action.

Old Saybrook kicked off its week by claiming a 4-3 victory at Valley Regional on Sept. 27. On Sept. 30, the Rams hosted Morgan at Old Saybrook High School and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

Sophomore Kevin DeCapua scored a goal to give Old Saybrook a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute of the game. Morgan came back with a goal during the 35th minute to knot the score at 1-1, which held up as the final tally.

In its last matchup of the week, the Rams netted a 3-2 victory over Canton in a non-conference game on Oct. 2.

Girls’ Soccer

The Old Saybrook girls’ soccer squad took two losses last week to put its record at 3-3-1 on the season. The Rams lost to Valley Regional and Morgan in last week’s contests.

On Sept. 28, the Rams hosted Valley Regional and took a 2-1 loss at Old Saybrook High School. Then on Oct. 1, Old Saybrook played a road game versus Morgan and dropped a 1-0 decision at the Indian River Complex. Junior goalie Abigail Colella made 11 saves for the Rams in the game.

Football

The Old Saybrook-Westbrook (OS-W) football team took road loss against the CREC co-op squad last week. On Oct. 2, traveled to Hartford to face CREC and lost the contest by a 20-6 final at Civic Leadership High School.

Following a bye week, the Rams will return to the field when they host Gilbert-Northwestern-Housy at Old Saybrook High School on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 11 a.m.
