The Haddam-Killingworth girls’ volleyball team stayed undefeated on the season by winning two matches in shutout fashion last week. The Cougars blanked Old Lyme and Valley Regional to run their record to 9-0 this year.
H-K opened up its week by claiming a 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-21) road victory against Old Lyme on Sept. 29. Junior Audra Yazmer had 14 service points with three kills for the Cougars. Senior Jessica Timothy posted 10 kills with nine service points and two aces, senior Audrey Snyder had 10 kills with three service points, and sophomore Reese Timothy had three kills in the victory.
The Cougars returned to the floor on Oct. 1 and notched a 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-17) win over Valley Regional in a home match.
Junior Lola Chagnon recorded 10 service points to go with eight digs and five aces for H-K. Senior Carly Rettberg handed out 14 assists and also had six service points. Jessica Timothy had 13 kills with 10 service points and two aces, while Snyder chipped in with 13 kills, seven service points, and three aces.
Field Hockey
The H-K field hockey squad notched its first win of the year when the team defeated Morgan last week. The Cougars also took losses to Canton and North Branford for an overall record of 1-6-1-1 this season.
H-K earned its first victory of 2021 when the Cougars posted a 1-0 win over Morgan in a home game on Sept. 30. Then on Oct. 1, H-K played a road game versus Canton and took a 2-0 defeat. The next day, the Cougars took a 3-0 home loss to North Branford.
Boys’ Soccer
The H-K boys’ soccer team had three games last week and came away with one victory to move to 4-5-1 on the season.
In its first game of the week, H-K claimed a 1-0 road victory versus Cromwell on Sept. 27. Three days later, the Cougars hosted East Hampton and lost the contest by a 2-1 score. Then on Oct. 2, H-K took a 3-1 defeat against Portland in a road game.
Girls’ Soccer
The H-K girls’ soccer team played one game last week when the Cougars faced East Hampton on the road on Oct. 1. The Cougars battled the Bellringers to a 1-1 stalemate to put their record at 3-3-1 for the season.
Football
The Haddam-Killingworth football team took a defeat against Cromwell-Portland (C-P) in a road game last week. The Cougars lost to the Panthers by the final score of 41-3 at Pierson Park in Cromwell on Oct. 1, putting their record at 1-2 for the season.
C-P scored the first two touchdowns of the game to take a 14-0 lead over H-K. The Cougars got on the board when senior Kevin Cavrell kicked a 27-yard field goal in the second quarter. The Panthers scored the final touchdown of the opening half and held a 21-3 advantage at the break. C-P went on to score three TDs during the third quarter on its way to the 41-3 victory.
H-K will be back on the road to face the Coginchaug/Hale-Ray/East Hampton co-op squad on Friday, Oct. 8. The game gets underway at 6:30 p.m. at Coginchaug High School.
