North Branford Field Hockey Notches a Win and a Tie; Volleyball Takes Two of Three


Field Hockey

The North Branford field hockey team picked up three points in the standings by earning a win and a draw between its two games last week. The Thunderbirds defeated Morgan and then tied Old Saybrook to boost their record to 4-1-1 on the year.

North Branford claimed a 5-2 home victory versus Morgan on Sept. 21. The T-Birds held a 3-1 halftime lead and then outscored the Huskies 2-1 in the second half to get the win.

Senior Olivia Toto scored three goals for North Branford in the victory. Fellow senior Mia Oliverio had two goals with an assist on the day. Junior Payton Kamienski and sophomore Sophia Toto added one assist apiece for the T-Birds.

On Sept. 23, North Branford played a road game against Old Saybrook. The T-Birds battled the Rams to a 2-2 tie in the matchup.

Girls’ Volleyball

The North Branford girls’ volleyball team won two of its three matches last week to improve to 4-4 in the 2021 campaign. The T-Birds won a close one versus Valley Regional before taking a loss to Morgan and then defeating Cromwell in recent action.

North Branford started off its week by claiming a 3-2 home victory over Valley Regional on Sept. 20. Then on Sept. 22, the T-Birds hosted Morgan and took a 3-0 defeat. The following day, North Branford was on the road to face Cromwell and recorded a 3-0 shutout against the Panthers.

Boys’ Soccer

The North Branford boys’ soccer team lost two games last week to move to 0-5 on the season.

On Sept. 20, the T-Birds took a 4-0 home loss to Haddam-Killingworth. Three days later, North Branford played a road game versus Old Lyme and lost by an 8-1 score.

Girls’ Soccer

The North Branford girls’ soccer squad lost a pair of contests last week and is now 0-5 this year.

North Branford played a road game against Haddam-Killingworth on Sept. 21 and took a 5-0 loss to the Cougars. Then on Sept. 14, the Thunderbirds hosted Old Lyme and lost to the Wildcats by an 8-0 final.
