Morgan Football Scores Win No. 2; Both Soccer Teams Earn Wins

The Huskies grabbed its second win of the season with a resounding 54-6 victory over the Capitol Region Education Council co-op football squad on Sept. 25. Morgan hosted CREC at Peters Complex, and with the lopsided home victory, the Huskies moved to 2-1 on the season.

The Huskies scored first thanks to a 10-yard run from Casey Corrigan, and with a successful two-point conversion from Drew Nye to Alex Fratamico, Morgan took an 8-0 lead. CREC narrowed the Huskies’ lead to 8-6 after scoring a touchdown in response, but that proved to be the last score CREC would get on the day.

Corrigan visited the end zone again with a 28-yard run, and a Garret Garbinski run on the two-point conversion increased Morgan’s lead to 16-6. Corrigan scored another touchdown for the Huskies, this time on a 13-yard run. Nye and Fratamico connected once again on the two-point conversion to make it a 24-6 advantage.

Nye and Garbinski hooked up for a touchdown on a 14-yard pass, and Nye and Fratemico made another successful two-point conversion to increase the edge to 32-6. Nye and Fratamico hit the end zone next on a nine-yard touchdown pass, and connected again on the two-point conversion to make it 40-6. Nye and Fratamico scored another touchdown on a 17-yard pass, and Nye and Corrigan linked up for a successful two-point conversion to make it 48-6. To round out the scoring, Nye hit Garbinski on a 33-yard bomb to bring the score to its 54-6 conclusion.

Girls’ Soccer

The Morgan girls’ soccer squad played a pair of games last week and came away with two wins on the slate. With the victories, the Huskies’ record improved to 3-0-2 on the season.

On Sept. 21, Morgan headed to Deep River to take on Valley Regional, and the Huskies scored a 2-0 victory over the Warriors. Morgan got out to a 1-0 lead in the first half when Taylor Maher put the ball in the back of the net in the 22nd minute off an assist from Emily Smith. In the second half, Katie Martin scored in the 45th minute off an assist from Maher. Angelina Comiskey earned a shutout in net making six saves on the game. On Sept. 25, the Huskies headed to Westbrook and earned a 4-0 win over the Knights. Morgan got up 2-0 in the first. Katerine Toledo scored the Huskies’ first goal in the 21st minute off an assist from Rachel Spaziano. Julia Tanner found the net seven minutes later with an assist from Maher.

In the second half, Maeve Madura scored in the 64th minute with a helper from Glenda Zhuminaicela. Caeley Ayer put a ball in the net in the 77th minute to push the score to its 4-0 final.

Comiskey and Samantha Way each played one half at goalkeeper and had a save apiece in the victory.

Boys’ Soccer

The Huskies had a pair of games on the slate last week, and Morgan finished the week with a win and a loss to its credit. With these results, the Huskies record moved to 5-1 on the year.

On Sept. 20, Morgan hosted Valley at the Indian River Complex and dropped a narrow 1-0 contest to the Warriors. The Huskies fell behind after an early goal from Valley in the sixth minute. Morgan goalie Bailey Goss made nine saves in net in the loss.

Three days later, the Huskies again played host at the Indian River Complex, this time facing Westbrook. Morgan grabbed a 4-1 win against the Knights.

The Huskies scored three goals over in the first half, which put Westbrook on the back foot for the entire game. Matt Lopez scored Morgan’s first goal in the 27th minute off an assist from Steven Kinser. Two minutes later, Sebastian Kadlof put a ball into the net off a helper from Alex Gallardo. In the 32nd minute, Jake Bardinelli grabbed a goal on an assist from Jake Mastriano. Westbrook made it 3-1 in the second half, but Lopez added another goal in the 62nd minute to bring the score to the 4-1 final. Goss made a pair of saves in net.

Field Hockey

The Huskies played three contests as part of last week’s action and lost all three games on the slate. The defeats dropped the Huskies’ record to 2-4-1 on the season.

On Sept. 21, Morgan headed to North Branford and lost a 5-2 game against the Thunderbirds. North Branford outscored the Huskies 3-1 in the first half. In the second half, the Thunderbirds had a 2-1 scoring advantage. The Huskies goals came from Maggie O’Donnell and Mary Minichino.

The next day, the Huskies hosted Valley Regional and took a 2-0 defeat versus the Warriors. On Sept. 25, Morgan lost a 4-0 home contest against Sacred Heart Academy.
