H-K Girls’ Volleyball Goes to 7-0; Boys’ Soccer Takes 2 of 3

Girls’ Volleyball

The Haddam-Killingworth girls’ volleyball team improved to 7-0 overall on the year after winning all three of its matches last week. H-K defeated Coginchaug, Cromwell, and East Hampton in recent action.

The Cougars started off their week by earning a 3-0 home win over Coginchaug on Sept. 20. Two days later, the Cougars were on the road to face Cromwell and triumphed by a 3-0 final. Then on Sept. 24, H-K hosted East Hampton and claimed a 3-1 victory over the Bellringers.

Boys’ Soccer

The H-K boys’ soccer team won two out of its three games last week to improve its record to 3-3-1 on the year.

On Sept. 20, the Cougars claimed a 4-0 victory at North Branford. Sophomore Cole Merriam scored two goals and tallied an assist in the win. Senior Ben Williams also scored a pair of goals for the Cougars.

Three days later, H-K defeated Coginchaug by a 4-0 score in a home game. Merriam scored two goals, while junior Gus Luzietti sophomore Andres Montes added one goal apiece. Junior goalkeeper Jack Straka earned the shutout in net for H-K.

In its last game of the week, H-K took a 5-1 loss at Valley Regional on Sept. 25.

Girls’ Soccer

The H-K girls’ soccer squad stands at 3-3 this year after splitting a pair of recent matchups.

On Sept. 21, the Cougars hosted North Branford and posted a 5-0 shutout. Junior Julia Favorola netted two goals for H-K in the victory. Senior Yumi Imai, senior Brianna Nugent, and junior Leah Chester each scored one goal to help H-K prevail.

Two days later, the Cougars took a 3-0 defeat against Coginchaug in a road game.

Field Hockey

The H-K field hockey team lost two close contests last week and is now 0-5-1 this season.

H-K took a 2-1 home loss against Old Saybrook on Sept. 20. Three days later, the Cougars hosted the Westbrook-Old Lyme co-op squad and were edged out by a 2-1 score.

Girls’ Swimming and Diving

The H-K girls’ swimming and diving team was on the road to face Waterford last week. The Cougars improved to 2-0 on the year by earning a 103-77 victory versus Waterford on Sept. 21.
