Guilford AAU Wins Last Two Regular-Season Games

The Guilford 19-U AAU baseball team finished its regular season with a record of 12-7-1 after winning its final two games on the schedule last week. The Grizzlies earned home wins versus City Angels Baseball Academy and the NCT Mustangs at Guilford High School to enter the postseason on a positive note.

On Aug. 7, Guilford hosted City Angels Baseball Academy and triumphed by the final score of 8-4. Andrew Shosho pitched a complete game for Guilford, allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk to go with three strikeouts. Catcher Chris Golino went 4-for-4 with a walk, a double, two runs scored, and four stolen bases for the Grizzlies, who had nine stolen bases as a team. Center fielder Mike Torre was 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Guilford made no errors on the field in the victory. Max Corbett led the effort by converting all six of his fielding opportunities.

The next day, Guilford claimed a 9-2 win over the NCT Mustangs in its regular-season finale. Sam Ametrano tossed a complete game for the Grizzlies, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out seven in his seven innings of work. Ametrano also went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, and a run scored at the plate. Torre was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Once again, Guilford committed no errors in the game. Alex Vincent was successful on all eight of his fielding chances.

Guilford is competing in the East Shore Travel League Playoff this week. The tournament began on Aug. 11 (after press time) and runs through the final at the Connecticut Sportsplex in North Branford on Friday, Aug. 13.
