Clinton Huskies Finish Regular Season Strong


The Clinton Huskies 17-U AAU East Shore Travel League baseball team wrapped up the regular season with a slate of five games the past week. The Huskies earned a variety of results in the contests, and their record moved to 9-8-2 on the year.

On Aug. 8, Clinton played a doubleheader against Run & Gun Baseball at the Indian River Complex. In the first game, both teams played to a stalemate with a 3-3 tie.

The Huskies opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning for a 1-0 advantage. Run & Gun tied the game in the top of the fourth inning at 1-1, but the Huskies added two more runs in the bottom of the frame to take the 3-1 lead. Run & Gun scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to knot the score at 3-3, which would hold as the final score.

Brady Fritz provided a pair of hits and a run, while Garret Garbinksi added a hit and a run. Ryan Hromadka laced a couple of hits, while Dom Carpenter supplied a hit and a run.

Mike Zingarella took the mound for the Huskies in the start and pitched six innings allowed three runs, three hits, three walks, and struck out eight batters. Ethan Ranaudo came on in relief for two innings allowing only one hit and striking out two.

The nightcap saw plenty more action in terms offense. The Huskies claimed a 14-12 win against Run & Gun. The Huskies scored first with a run in the top of the first inning, and Run & Gun went up 2-1 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame. The Huskies went back on top with three runs in the second to make it 4-2. Each team added a run in their respective frame in the third inning to make it 5-3.

Run & Gun went off for four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to go ahead 7-5. In the top of the fifth inning, the Huskies put a crooked number on the board with five runs to make it 10-7. Run & Gun came back with five runs in the bottom of the frame to retake the lead at 12-10. In the top of the sixth, Clinton added four more runs to make it 14-12.

Garbinski knocked a couple hits and scored two runs, and Jacob Nelson added a hit and two runs. Nolan Sullivan notched two hits and two runs, and Fritz supplied a hit and a run. Ranaudo had a hit, while Cam Gratton had a hit and two runs. Brady Fritz provided a hit and a run, as did Ryan Luciani and Nick Spaziano.

Declan Christopher got the start and threw four innings allowed seven runs, eight hits, two walks, and struck out four batters. Garbinski came on in relief for 0.2 innings allowing five runs, one hit, five walks, and struck out three. Fritz closed out the game with a scoreless 1.1 innings allowing one hit, no runs, no walks, and struck out two batters.

Two days later, the Huskies had a doubleheader against the Shoreline Breakers at the Indian River Complex. The Huskies claimed a 4-3 win in the first contest and lost the nightcap 3-2.

In the first game, the Huskies got on the board with a run in the bottom of the first inning. The Breakers tied the game with a run in the top of the fourth. Clinton went up 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning, and the Breakers tied it up with two in the top of the fifth inning. The Huskies walked off the Breakers with a run in the bottom of the seventh for the win.

Zingarella had a pair of hits and three runs. Carpenter also knocked a couple of hits and added a run.

Nelson hit the walk-off sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Garbinski took the mound and pitched 5.2 innings, allowed three runs, three hits, two walks, and struck out four. Fritz pitched in relief for 1.1 innings, allowed no run, hits, or walks, and struck out two.

In the nightcap, the Breakers took the lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth, and they held that advantage until the Huskies score two runs in the top of the seventh inning. Unfortunately, the Breakers scored a pair in the bottom of the frame to give the Huskies the loss.

Garbinski notched a hit and a run. Fritz laced a double and scored a run. Zingarella supplied a pair of hits. Ranaudo pitched a solid game with seven innings pitched, allowing three runs, four hits, wo walks, and struck out eight batters.

On Aug. 5, Clinton battled the Boys of Summer at the Indian River Complex and triumphed by a score of 7-4. Clinton scored a run in the bottom of the first inning, and the Boys of Summer took the lead with three runs in the top of the third inning. The Huskies dropped five runs on the Boys of Summer in bottom of the fourth for the 6-3 advantage, and added another run in the fifth to make it 7-3. The Boys of Summer scored their final run in the seventh inning.

“Garbinski laced three base hits and scored a pair of runs. Fritz, Zingarella, and Carpenter had a hit and a run apiece. Reemsnyder added two hits, including a three run home run. Ranaudo and Nelson each had a hit, and Spaziano added a run.

Zingarella took the mound for the Huskies and pitched 7.2 innings, allowed four runs on seven hits, six walks, and struck out seven, Fritz came on in relief and pitched 1.1 innings allowed a hit and struck out 2.
