With a stubborn spate of heavy rains putting a damper competition for two consecutive weeks, the Deep River Horseshoe League recently returned to the pits for Week 10 action. The league standings shuffled around a bit near the top, but the Reds still held onto the top spot and put some distance between themselves and second place.

The Reds defeated the Red Sox by a 5-1 score to open up their advantage over the Pirates who leapt into second place with a 4-2 victory over the Giants. The Marlins fell out of second after a 5-1 defeat by the Tigers, even though Clinton's Mark Goodale led all A Players again this past week. The Dodgers maintained their position in third place with a narrow 3.5-2.5 loss to the Cards, who actually lost ground in the standings with the win. The Angels' surge up the standings continued with a big 5-1 win over the Royals. The Yankees and the Rangers ended up knotted at 3-3 despite the Yankees putting up 327 points in the match.

Goodale's score of 156 led all of Division A this week, and the Giants' Mike Zanelli, Sr., of Haddam, tallied 150 points for second on that list. Mike DiDomizio of the Padres came in third place among A players with a score of 144, which included a 50-point game that had a ringer in every frame.

As for the B Division, the Reds' Andy Perna, of Chester, tossed his season-best series with 140 points, 36 ringers, and nine double-ringers, which were all season highs for B Division players. Currently, Perna leads all B players in scoring with Ed Turner trailing. Deep River's Robert Cifaldi, who plays for the Yankees, came in second among the B's in Week 10 with a score of 128. The Angels' Damin Roberts, who lives in Cromwell, took third with 101.

In the C Division, Deep River's Sheryl Serviss, of the Pirates, continues her dominant play and led the division with a score of 147. Chester's Jeremy Davis, who plays for the Rangers took second among C players with a score of 116, and the Dodgers' Scott Allen, Jr., of Deep River, scored 91 points for third.

The DRHL standings are Reds (40.5-19.5), Pirates (36.5-23.5), Dodgers (35.5-24.5), Marlins (35-25), Angels (34-26), Cardinals (32.5-27.5), Tigers (31-29), Yankees (30-30), Red Sox (30-30), Rangers (29-31), Braves (28.5-31.5), Royals (28-32), Cubs (27-33), Orioles (26-34), Giants (25.5-34.5), Padres (25.5-34.5), White Sox (24-36), and Mets (21.5-38.5).

The Deep River Horseshoe League has 18 teams that feature three players of each of the A, B, and C divisions. The league plays every Thursday night on the First Congregational Green in Deep River and welcomes anyone to come watch its contests. For info, visit deepriverhorseshoes.com.
