Madison Legion in First Place Entering Home Stretch


The Madison Senior American Legion U-19 baseball team swept a three-game series from North Haven last week to improve to 13-3 in Zone 2 competition this season. Post 79 remains in first place in the Zone 2 standings entering the final week of the regular season, leading Wallingford (12-5) by 1.5 games for the top spot with just five games to play.

Madison started off its week by claiming a 13-1 home win versus North Haven at Town Campus Field on July 14. David Antonetti pitched a complete game to lead Madison to the victory.

The next day, Madison played a road game against North Haven and won the contest by the final tally of 11-1. Jeffrey Pinover got the start on the mound and tossed 5.1 innings to get the win for Post 79. Christopher Wanat retired the last two batters off the game to finish off the victory.

Then on July 17, Madison hosted North Haven and won recorded a 6-0 shutout in the game. Ryan Knight pitched four scoreless innings for Madison in the victory. Jared Kuryan pitched two scoreless innings, while William Kranzler worked a scoreless inning for Post 79.
