Fourth Annual East Haven Road Race on the Way

The East Haven 5K Road Race Committee, in conjunction with Mayor Joseph A. Carfora, recently announced that the fourth annual East Haven Community Classic Road Race will take place on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 9:30 a.m. Registration begins at 8 a.m. for the event, whose proceeds will be pledged to benefit the town’s Police Athletic League.

“The town’s road race is held annually on the Saturday coinciding with the Fall Festival, in cooperation with the Fall Festival Committee and our community’s Police Athletic League,” Carfora said. “It’s a great event, steeped with tradition, and it brings hundreds of people to our Town Green to kick off the second day of our annual Fall Festival.”

Interested participants can sign up for the race, pay the entry fee, and get more information by visiting www.ehroadrace.com. Mail-in registration forms can be requested by contacting race coordinator Judy Sittnick at 203-996-6596 or emailing ehcommunityclassic@gmail.com.

“Judy Sittnick, the race’s coordinator for over 20 years, will be working with members from our police department and State Representative Joseph Zullo to organize this year’s race,” said Carfora. “As with prior years, all of the profits from the race will go directly to benefit the town’s Police Athletic League, which provides quality, wholesome athletic programming and activities for town youths.”

In addition to the 5K road race, race-day activities will include a nearly one-mile-long fun run that begins and ends on the town green at 9 a.m. The 5K race will then start at 9:30 a.m.

For the fourth year in a row, the Law Offices of Zullo, Zullo, and Jacks, LLC has agreed to be the event’s main sponsor. However, the race committee is still looking for additional event sponsors for the mile markers.

The race route is fast and flat, beginning at the town green and leading runners through the center of town, and then finishing on Main Street at the starting line next to the green. The race is open to people of all ages, and wheelchair athletes are encouraged and welcomed to participate.

The event will feature ample water stations and also a hydration station at the conclusion in order for runners to recover after the race. Trophies will be awarded across 10 age categories to both male and female participants, including the male and female first-place finishers.

“I am excited that we have a great group of local volunteers and community stakeholders both organizing the race and competing in it,” Carfora said. “I encourage anyone interested in running to sign up for the race and show their support for the East Haven Police Athletic League.”
