The Madison Senior Legion baseball team continued its strong start to the 2021 summer season by winning two of its three games last week. Madison claimed a victory over Orange before splitting two contests with Wallingford to improve to 9-3 on the year. Post 79 is in first place in the Zone 2 standings, two games ahead of West Haven (5-3) for the top spot.

Madison started off its week by claiming a 10-6 road win over Orange at Brinley Field on June 28. Andrew Earl tossed a complete game by pitching all seven innings for Madison in the victory.

Then on June 29, Madison hosted Wallingford and came away with a 5-3 triumph at Town Campus Field. Pitcher David Antonetti pitched six innings and struck out six in the win. Ryan Knight earned the save by pitching the final inning in relief.

Second baseman Jared Kuryan had two hits for Madison in the victory. Outfielder John deChabert collected a pair of RBI.

The next day, Madison traveled to Wallingford and took a 3-1 defeat at Pat Wall Field. Matt Carone pitched six innings for Post 79, allowing three runs in the first inning and then shutting out Wallingford the rest of the way.

Outfielder Ken Nuzzi had two hits in the loss. Kuryan had an RBI to produce Madison’s lone run of the game.
