North Haven Rugby Holding Youth Camp

The North Haven rugby program is hosting a youth flag co-ed rugby camp this month. The camp is for kids who are in grades 4 through 9 and will take place from Monday, July 26 to Friday, July 30.

At the camp, rugby skills will be taught through a fun, game-centered approach that emphasizes passing, catching, ball handling, and offensive and defensive play. This is a non-contact program open to both boys and girls.

The staff for the camp includes Cassie Bishop, who is the head coach of the Staples High School girls’ rugby team; Alycia Washington, a member of the USA National women’s rugby team; and Owen Davis, who is the administrator of the camp.

There will be five total sessions for the camp with one session from 6 to 8 p.m. each weekday between July 26 and 30. The camp will be held at the North Haven Recreation Center fields on 7 Linsley Street.

The fee to participate in the camps is $65 for one child with a $55 fee for a second child, payable by either cash or check at the first session. Checks should be made payable to North Haven Youth Rugby.

All participants at the camp are required to wear cleats, preferably soccer cleats, as well as a mouth guard. Each participant will receive a free rugby ball and T-shirt.
