CT Warriors Baseball Squad Splits a Doubleheader

The Connecticut Warriors 19-U AAU baseball team opened its summer season by playing a doubleheader against Bluefish Travel Baseball at Guilford High School on June 26. The Warriors earned a split of the set by taking a 4-1 loss in the first game and then claiming a 9-8 victory in the nightcap. The Warriors, who are mostly comprised of Guilford graduates, are competing in the East Shore Travel League this year.

Sam Huffman pitched four innings and recorded seven strikeouts for the CT Warriors when they dropped a 4-1 decision versus the Bluefish in their first game of the year. Head Coach Jim Petonito’s squad had people on base throughout the game, but left eight runners stranded in scoring position in the loss.

The Warriors came right back to get a 9-8 victory against the Bluefish in the second game of the doubleheader. With the Warriors trailing 8-7 in the final inning, Tyler Considine led off with a double and then scored on a single by John Petonito to tie the game. Petonito later came home with the winning run when Sam Huffman drew a walk with the bases loaded.

Cam Sullivan was the biggest contributor at the plate for the Warriors during the doubleheader, going 4-for-5 between the two contests.
