Valley Golf Competes at State Meet; Lunz Throws the Shot Put at the Open


Boys’ Golf

The Valley Regional boys’ golf squad hit the links to compete at the Division IV State Championship at Fairview Farm Golf Course in Harwinton on June 8. The Warriors finished in 18th place by posting a team score of 439 at the state meet.

Freshman Tyler Ruel turned in Valley’s best showing at states by shooting a 97 for his 18-hole round. Ruel finished in a tie for 53rd place in the individual Division IV standings with this performance. Sophomore Kevin King took 58th place by recording a score of 100 for the Warriors.

Senior Zachary Figuenick finished in a tie for 83rd place with a score of 114 for Valley at states. Fellow senior Matthew Skowronek came in 92nd place by shooting a score of 128.

Boys’ Outdoor Track

The Valley Regional boys’ outdoor track team was represented by junior Connor Lunz at the State Open Championship meet last week.

Lunz competed in the shot put when the State Open took place at Willow Brook Park in New Britain on June 10. Lunz finished in 20th place for the shot put by recording a throw of 41 feet-6.5 inches. Lunz had previously finished second for shot put at the Shoreline Conference Championship and then came in fourth place in the event at the Class S State Championship.
