Francois and Stettinger Score Points at State Open; Golf Squad Competes in Division II State Championship

Girls’ Outdoor Track

The East Haven girls’ outdoor track team saw three competitors represent the program by participating in the State Open Championship at Willow Brook Park on June 10. The Yellowjackets finished in 17th place for the State Open standings by scoring 14 points at the meet.

Senior Kisha Francois finished in a tie for third place in long jump and also took sixth place in the 100-meter dash for at the Open. In the long jump, Francois reached a distance of 18 feet-4.5 inches to claim third place and score six points for the Easties.

In the 100, Francois took fifth place in the preliminaries by running a time of 12.54 seconds. Francois then timed in with a mark of 12.49 seconds in the finals to finish in sixth place overall and score three points.

Francois had previously won the 100, the 200, and the long jump at the SCC West Sectional Championship, after which she took first in the 100 and the 200 at the SCC Championship, followed by first-place finishes in all three events at the Class M State Championship. Francois set the school record in the long jump with a distance of 18 feet at sectionals and then broke her own record by hitting 18 feet-7.25 inches at the Class M meet. Francois also set East Haven’s school record in the 200 with a time of 25.56 at the sectional meet. Additionally, Francois was named the Most Outstanding Athlete at the SCC meet.

Sophomore Alice Stettinger scored some points for the Yellowjackets by taking fourth place in the javelin at the State Open. Stettinger recorded a distance of 118 feet-6 inches to finish fourth and score five points for East Haven. Stettinger had previously won the javelin at the West Sectional, SCC, and Class M meets, setting a school record in the event with a throw of 122-9 at sectionals.

Junior Morgan D’Auria competed in the triple jump for the Easties at the State Open. D’Auria finished in 11th place for the triple jump with a distance of 34 feet-10.25 inches.

Boys’ Outdoor Track

The East Haven boys’ outdoor track team was represented by three athletes when the State Open Championship took place at Willow Brook State Park on June 10. Seniors David Amatruda and Radames Figueroa competed for the Easties at the State Open, along with sophomore Dom Salato.

Salato competed in both the triple jump and the long jump on behalf of the Yellowjackets. Salato took 19th place in the triple jump with a leap of 38 feet-9.75 inches and also finished 21st in the javelin by recording a leap of 134 feet-5 inches.

Figueroa competed in the preliminaries of the 110 hurdles for East Haven, finishing in 16th place with a time of 16.24 seconds. Amatruda ran the 200-meter dash at the Open and came in 17th place by crossing the finish line in 23.61 seconds.

Boys’ Golf

The East Haven boys’ golf team hit the links to compete at the Division II State Championship at Timberlin Golf Course in Berlin on June 7. The Yellowjackets finished in 18th place by posting a team score of 367 at the meet.

Senior Ian Reynolds turned in East Haven’s best showing at states by recording a score of 79 for his 18-hole round. Reynolds finished in a tie for 25th place with his performance. Junior Ethan Roach finished in a tie for 44th place by shooting a score of 86.

Freshman Mike Savo shot an 98 to finish in a tie for 92nd place on behalf of the Easties. Senior Nick Sorrentino finished in a tie for 94th place by carding a 104 for the Yellowjackets. Sophomore Domenic Plano shot a 109 to finish in 101st place.
