Narracci Scores 100th Goal for Morgan in States; Baseball Takes Loss in Second Round

Girls’ Lacrosse

The Morgan girls’ lacrosse squad headed to the Class S State Tournament last week. The Huskies picked up a win and a loss in the bracket and finished their season with an overall record of 9-10.

On May 28, No. 15 seed Morgan hosted No. 18 seed Griswold at the Indian River Complex in a play-in contest for states. The Huskies claimed a lopsided 20-5 victory over Griswold and moved into the first round. The game got out of hand quickly as Morgan led by a score of 14-2 by the end of the first half.

Lindsay Narracci scored eight goals and added an assist. Naracci notched her 100th goal of her career in this contest, as well. Carley Schmidt supplied three goals and two assists, while Maeve Madura scored three goals. Ashley Reemsnyder, Alexis Shields, Brooke Carlisle, Natalia Comiskey, Lola Damiano, and Emily Smith each score one goal apiece.

Marin Stopkoski made seven saves.

On June 1, Morgan went up against Ellington on the road and took a 5-2 defeat. At halftime, the score was tied 1-1, and it wasn’t until the second half that Ellington was able to pull away.

Narracci scored a goal in the first half, while Carley Schmidt picked up a goal in the second half.

Stopkoski had seven saves in the net.

Baseball

The Morgan baseball team played two games in the Class M State Tournament last week. The Huskies won their first contest, but lost in the second round. With these results, Morgan’s final overall record on the season was 12-10.

On June 1, No. 16 seed Morgan hosted No. 17 seed Ellington in the first round. The Huskies earned a 5-3 win over Ellington. Robbie Zirlis earned the win on the mound for Morgan going seven innings allowing just three hits, striking out seven, and issuing no walks.

Some highlights included a Dom Carpenter single in the fourth inning that scored a run. Bailey Goss also hit a sacrifice fly to drive in a run for the Huskies.

The next day, Morgan faced No. 1 seed East Catholic and took a 5-0 loss in the contest.

Girls’ Outdoor Track

The Huskies sent a handful of athletes to compete at the Class S State Championship meet at Willow Brook Park on June 3. Morgan earned five points as a team, which earned a tie for 26th place overall.

The 4x100 quartet of Caeley Ayer, Logan Pernal, Glenda Zhiminaicela, and Alexandra Wolf earned fourth place with a time of 52.28 seconds. Ayer also took ninth place in the long jump with a distance of 14 feet-9.5 inches. Anastasia Luke claimed 10th place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.04.

In the 100, Wolf came in 15th place with a time of 13.45, Ayer came in 17th at a mark of 13.57, Pernal finished in 25th with a time of 13.82, and Zhiminaicela finished in 42nd with a time of 14.29. In the 200, Pernal came in 25th at 28.81 and Luke finished in 26th with a mark of 28.91.

Girls’ Tennis

The Huskies competed in the Class S State Tournament this past week and made it to the quarterfinal before losing to juggernaut and eventual state champion Old Lyme. With these results, Morgan’s final overall record on the season ended up at 11-7.

On May 28, the Huskies hosted Windsor Locks and claimed a narrow 4-3 victory to move into the quarterfinal round.

On June 1, Morgan headed to Old Lyme and took a tough 7-0 contest against the Wildcats.

Boys’ Golf

The Huskies played a regular season match against Hand last week to close out the slate before the Division III State championship. The Huskies lost the match and their overall record moved to 11-4 on the year.

On May 27, Morgan played a road match at the Madison Country Club versus Hand and lost 159-185.
