Huskies’ Golf Sinks a Couple of Wins; Baseball Plates a Pair of Victories

Boys’ Golf

The Morgan golf squad had three matches on the slate last week, and the Huskies claimed two wins out the of three contests. With these results, Morgan’s record moved to 6-3 on the season.

On May 11, the Huskies headed to Portland Golf Course to take on the Highlanders and lost a 161-193 road match.

Senior captain Jason Cohen had the Huskies’ lowest score on the day with 45. Drew Nye was close behind with a tally of 46. Nick Schmidt turned in a score of 50 followed by CJ Giuliano at 52, Ray Swan at 53, and Tyler Greenhouse at 56.

The next day, the Huskies earned a 182-195 road win over Old Saybrook at Fenwick Golf Course.

Schmidt was the was low man for Morgan with 43 strokes in the match. Nye turned in a score of 44, and Cohen had a 45-stroke tally. Giuliano and Swan both notched 50 strokes in the victory.

On May 13, the Huskies headed to Black Hall Golf Club to take on Valley Regional and earned a 180-215 win against the Warriors.

Schmidt earned the medal for the Huskies with the match’s lowest score of 43. Giuliano was nipping at Schmidt’s heels with a score of 44, and Cohen was just a stroke higher at 45. Nye turned in a score of 48, while Greenhouse tallied 50 strokes.

Baseball

Morgan played three games as part of last week’s action, and the Huskies came away with a pair of victories for their efforts. With these results, Morgan’s record shifted to 8-8 on the season.

On May 11, the Huskies headed to Cromwell and claimed a 3-2 road win over the Panthers.

Robbie Zirlis earned the win on the mound for Morgan, pitching 6.1 innings allowing just two runs and striking out six batters. Bailey Goss came on in relief in the seventh inning and struck out one batter.

Goss also drove in a run at the plate. Ethan Reemsnyder cranked a 2-run home run in the victor. Garret Garbinski went 2-for-3.

The next day, Morgan lost a 10-4 road contest against Haddam- Killingworth. Garbinski took the loss on the mound after four innings of work, striking out four, and walking none. The Huskies offense lagged until the seventh inning when they plated three runs, but the outburst came too late to take down the Cougars. Garbinski, Brady Fritz, Dominic Carpenter, and Goss drove in runs in the loss.

On May 15, Morgan claimed a 10-4 home victory against North Branford. Goss earned the win on the bump for the Huskies pitching a complete game, allowing seven hits and four runs, and striking out six batters.

Carpenter scored four runs, including a home run. Fritz, Reemsnyder, Goss, and Carpenter all notched RBI in the victory. Fritz went 3-for-3.

Softball

The Huskies played four games last week and came away from the slate with a win and three losses. With these results, Morgan’s record moved to 5-11 on the year.

The Huskies began the week with a 16-1 home loss against Cromwell. The next day, Morgan notched a 12-1 road victory against East Hampton-Portland.

On May 12, the Huskies dropped a 9-1 home contest against Haddam-Killingworth. Three days later, Morgan lost a 15-0 road game against North Branford.

Girls’ Lacrosse

Morgan played three contests last week and finished the slate with two wins and a loss. With these results, the Huskies’ record shifted to 7-5 on the season.

On May 11, Morgan earned a 9-7 road victory over Old Lyme. The Huskies took a 6-2 lead heading into the half and held on as the Wildcats attempted to come back in the second.

Lindsay Narracci scored three goals and added an assist in the win, while Maeve Madura scored three goals. Cailan Steahle provided a goal and an assist, while Alexis Shields scored a pair of goals. Carley Schmidt supplied an assist. Marin Stopkoski made 13 saves in the victory.

Two days later, Morgan took a 16-8 home loss against Mercy. Schmidt supplied four goals and one assist in the loss, while Narracci provided three goals and an assist. Brooke Carlisle added an assist, while Madura scored a goal. Stopkoski had 10 saves in the loss.

On May 15, the Huskies claimed a 16-4 road victory over Cromwell.

Boys’ Lacrosse

The Huskies played two games as part of last week’s action. Morgan came away from last week’s slate with a split, and the Huskies’ record moved to 5-8 on the year.

On May 11, Morgan hosted Old Lyme and claimed a 14-13 victory against the Wildcats. On May 15, the Huskies dropped a 16-10 home decision against Farmington.

Boys’ Tennis

The Morgan boys’ tennis team had a very busy week playing four matches. The Huskies earned three wins and took one loss on the slate. With these results, Morgan’s record moved to 5-9 on the season.

On May 10, the Huskies hosted Coginchaug and claimed a 7-0 victory over the Blue Devils. The next day, Morgan headed to Durham for a rematch and grabbed a 6-1 road victory.

On May 12, the Huskies hosted Valley Regional and took a 6-1 loss to a strong Warriors’ squad. The next day, Morgan lost a 4-3 road match against Old Saybrook.

Girls’ Tennis

With three matches on the schedule last week, Morgan earned two wins and took one loss. With these results, the Huskies’ record on the season moved to 9-6.

On May 10, Morgan headed to Durham to take on the Blue Devils and earned a 5-2 road victory. Two days later, Morgan headed to Deep River to battle Valley Regional and took a narrow 4-3 defeat against the Warriors.

On May 13, the Huskies netted a 7-0 home win against Old Saybrook.
