The Valley Regional baseball squad played three games last week and came away with two wins on the slate. With these results, the Warriors’ record on the season moved to 9-3.
On May 3, the Warriors headed to Durham to do battle with Coginchaug. Valley lost a 9-1 contest against the Blue Devils. Coginchaug had a no-hitter going until Andrew Salbinski and Colin Carver laced back to back doubles in the game. Kyle Metz took the loss on the mound for the Warriors.
On May 6, Valley headed to North Branford and scored a 4-3 win against the Thunderbirds. Carver ended up notching the win on the mound for the Warriors. Carver was dealing, allowing only one hit through six innings, James Marsden came on after that to secure the save for Valley. Carver moved to 3-0 on the mound.
Carver helped his case on the mound while in the batters box, lacing an RBI triple. Metz notched three hits and drove in a pair. Salbinski drove in the go ahead run with a sacrifice fly.
On May 7, the Warriors headed to Clinton where they secured a 6-5 win over Morgan. Henry Breckenfield turned in a solid effort on the mound to get the win for Valley. Braeden Sparaco made his first appearance on the mound at the high school level and earned a save for his efforts. Breckenfield became the fifth Valley pitcher to earn a win this season.
Softball
The Warriors played three games last week and secured a win in one of those contests. With these results, Valley’s record this season moves to 3-8.
On May 3, the Warriors hosted Coginchaug and took a 17-0 loss against the Blue Devils.
On May 6, Valley lost a 10-4 home game against North Branford. North Branford struck first scoring a pair of runs in the top of the third inning, but Valley let loose for four runs in the bottom of the third to make 4-2. The lead was short lived though as the Thunderbirds scored six runs in the top of the fourth inning to make it 8-4. North Branford added single runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings.
The next day, Valley hosted Morgan and claimed a 14-8 win over the Huskies.
Girls’ Lacrosse
The Warriors had an action-packed week with four games on the slate. With one win, the Warriors’ record moved to 2-5 on the year.
On May 3, Valley hosted North Branford and took a 15-9 loss against the Thunderbirds.
The next day, the Warriors headed to Old Saybrook to take on the undefeated Rams, and Valley lost that matchup by a score of 19-10.
On May 6, the Warriors hosted Cromwell and claimed a big 20-5 win over the Panthers.
The next day, Old Lyme was in town for a contest, and Valley lost the home game 8-4 to the Wildcats.
Boys’ Lacrosse
The Valley boys’ lacrosse squad secured two more wins in as many games last week. With the victories, the Warriors’ record improved to 6-3 on the season.
On May 4, Valley host Old Saybrook and posted a 20-9 win against the Rams. Two days later, the Warriors headed to Cromwell and snagged a 14-3 win against the Panthers.
Boys’ Tennis
Valley had just a couple of matches on the schedule last week and won both of them. The victories move the Warriors’ record to 8-2 on the season so far.
On May 3, Valley hosted Coginchaug and claimed a 7-0 sweep in the match over the Blue Devils.
Three days later, Valley earned a 7-0 home win against East Hampton.
Girls’ Tennis
The Warriors played and lost two matches last week, falling to 6-4 on the season. On May 3, the Warriors headed to Durham to match up against Coginchaug. Valley lost 4-3 to the Blue Devils.
The next day, Valley hosted the Shoreline Conference’s top team in Old Lyme. The Warriors dropped a 6-1 match to the Wildcats.
