Morgan Golf Grabs Two Victories; Baseball Also Secures a Pair of Wins

Boys’ Golf

The Morgan golf team played just two matches last week and secured wins in both. With the victories, Morgan’s record improved to 4-2 on the year.

On May 3, Morgan hosted Old Lyme at the Clinton Country Club and took a 181-185 victory over the Wildcats.

Jason Cohen was the low man for the Huskies with a score of 40 on the day, while Nicholas Schmidt was next in line for Morgan with a tally of 47. CJ Giuliano turned in a scorecard of 46, and Tyler Greenhouse notched a 48 on the day.

Two days later, the Huskies secured a 184-203 victory at home versus North Branford.

Jason Cohen earned the medal on the day with the lowest score between both teams at 38. CJ Giuliano and Drew Nye were next lowest on Morgan’s roster, each shooting a 47 on the day. Nick Schmidt finished the match with a score of 52, and Tyler Greenhouse ended up with a score of 58.

Baseball

The Huskies had three games on the slate last week and grabbed wins in two of those contests. With these results, Morgan’s record moved to 6-7 on the season.

On May 3, the Huskies claimed a 10-5 home victory over Portland.

On May 6, Morgan earned a 13-3 triumph against East Hampton. Morgan blew the game open early with 10 runs in the first inning of the game. The Bellringers added a run in the third, and Morgan put a run on the board in the bottom of the frame as well. East Hampton scored two more runs in the top of the fourth, and the Huskies scored in the fourth and the fifth innings to make it 13-3.

The next day, Morgan took a narrow 6-5 home defeat against Valley Regional. The Warriors took an early lead with three runs in the top of the first, but Morgan hung in there and put two runs on the board in the bottom of the inning. The Huskies took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with two runs to make it 4-3, but Valley scored two runs of their own in the top of the fifth to make it 5-4. Valley extended the lead to 6-4 in the top of the sixth inning, and Morgan closed the gap slightly in the bottom of the frame. Ultimately, the Huskies took the 6-5 loss.

Softball

The Huskies played just two games last week and lost both of them. With the defeats, Morgan’s record dropped to 4-8 on the season.

On May 6, the Huskies hosted Hale-Ray and took an 11-5 home loss versus the Noises. The next day, Morgan headed to Deep River to take on Valley Regional and lost a 14-8 game against the Warriors.

Boys’ Lacrosse

The Huskies were plenty busy last week with four games on the slate. Morgan secured just one victory out of the four games, and the Huskies’ record moved to 4-7 on the season.

On May 4, Morgan host Cromwell and claimed a 16-4 victory over the Panthers. Two days later, the Huskies hosted Haddam-Killingworth and took an 11-6 defeat against the Cougars at home. On May 7, Morgan headed to Old Lyme and lost an 11-9 road contest versus the Wildcats. The next day, the Huskies were at home for St. Paul Catholic and took a 14-7 defeat.

Girls’ Lacrosse

The Huskies had a pair of games on the schedule this week and took losses in both contests. With the defeats, Morgan’s record falls to 5-4 on the season.

On May 6, the Huskies took a 13-11 loss at Haddam-Killingworth. The Huskies battled hard in the second half after falling behind 6-2 in the first.

Lindsay Narracci provided four goals and an assist, while Carley Schmidt supplied four goals. Brooke Carlisle scored a pair of goals and notched an assist, while Maeve Madura added a goal. Cailan Steahle had three assists in the defeat. Marin Stopkoski made six saves in net.

Two days later, Morgan lost a heartbreaker in an 11-10 home game against Lauralton Hall in overtime. Lauralton Hall led 6-3 at halftime, and Morgan managed to tie it 10-10 before the teams needed an overtime frame to decide the winner.

Narracci scored six goals, while Madura added three goals. Schmidt had a goal and an assist and Cailan Steahle supplied three assists. Stopkoski made 11 saves in the loss.

Boys’ Tennis

The Huskies had three matches on the schedule last week and lost all three of their contests. Morgan’s record dropped to 2-8 on the season.

On May 3, the Huskies headed to old Lyme where they lost a 7-0 match against one of the best teams in the Shoreline Conference. The next day, Morgan was at Portland and took a 5-2 road defeat against the Highlanders.

On May 7, Morgan hosted East Hampton and dropped a narrow 4-3 match against the Bellringers.

Girls’ Tennis
