The Westbrook boys’ tennis team completed a pair of matches last week and took victories in both contests. With the victories, the Knights’ record improved to 9-0 on the season.
On April 26, Westbrook hosted Old Saybrook and earned a 7-0 victory over the Rams. At No. 1 singles, Jesse McGannon earned a 6-0, 6-0 win, while Joey Caslin claimed a 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot. At the No. 3 position, Cooper Whitehouse grabbed a 6-0 6-0 win, and Elliot Koplas also claimed a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4. At the No. 5 spot, Daniel Ruppenicker earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
As for the doubles, the No. 1 tandem of Mason Malchiodi and Gareth Whitehouse claimed a 6-2, 6-0 win, and the No. 2 duo of Jonah Freund and Ryan Engels won by a 6-3, 6-2 score.
Two days later, the Knights headed to Morgan and secured another 7-0 win. McGannon grabbed an 0-6, 6-3, 6-0 win, while Caslin claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win. Cooper Whitehouse earned the 6-0, 6-0 win, Koplas netted a 6-0, 6-0 victory, and Ruppenicker got a 6-2, 6-0 win.
Malchiodi and Gareth Whitehouse triumphed 6-1, 6-1, and Freund and Engels earned the 6-0, 6-0 win.
Westbrook started a road match versus Haddam-Killingworth on April 30, but the match had to be stopped mid competition and will be completed this week.
Girls’ Tennis
The Knights played three matches as part of last week’s action and came away with three wins as well. With these wins, Westbrook’s record moved to 9-1 on the season.
On April 26, the Knights headed to Old Saybrook where they earned a 6-1 win against the Rams. At No. 1 singles, Julia Farnoli grabbed a 6-3, 6-0 win, while Gianni Salisbury claimed a 6-4, 6-0 win at the No. 2 position. At the No. 3 spot, Ava Ciarcia earned a 6-4, 6-2 win, and Jami Sacco netted a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the No. 4 spot.
As for doubles, the No. 1 duo of Bree Koplas and Xan Zanzalari slaimed a 6-3, 7-5 win, and the No. 2 tandem of Olivia Palumbo and Adriana Stranieri battled for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory.
Two days later, Westbrook hosted Morgan and earned a 7-0 win over the Huskies. Farnoli (6-0, 6-1), Salisbury (6-2, 6-2), Ciarcia (3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2)), and Sacco (6-1, 6-0) all claimed wins on the singles court.
As for doubles, Koplas and Zanzalari (6-3, 6-1) and Palumbo and Stranieri (6-3, 7-6 (8-6)) earned claimed their wins as well. At the No. 3 spot, Marlee Archer and Caroline Dias secured a 1-6, 7-6 (9-7), 6-3 victory.
On April 30, Westbrook triumphed over Haddam-Killingworth at home by a 6-1 score. Farnoli (6-1, 6-2), Salisbury (6-1, 6-1), Sacco (7-6 (7-4), 6-2) earned wins on the singles court. As for doubles, Koplas and Zanzalari (6-2, 7-5), Palumbo and Stranieri (6-1, 6-0) claimed victories. At the No. 3 spot, Dias and Sophia Rutkis took home a 6-2, 6-4 win.
Baseball
Westbrook played three games last week and lost all three. The Knights record fell to 0-10 on the year as a result of the losses.
On April 26, Westbrook hosted East Hampton and took a 14-0 loss against the Bellringers. Two days later, the Knights were on the road to battle Haddam-Killingworth where they took a 17-2 defeat. On April 30, Westbrook lost a 21-0 home game against Morgan.
Softball
Westbrook took two losses as the result of forfeits last week. The Knights record moved to 0-4 on the season.
On April 26, Westbrook lost to East Hampton-Portland by forfeit, and two days later, the Knights dropped a game against Haddam-Killingworth.
