Morgan Girls’ Lacrosse Racking Up Victories; Golf Squad Notches First Win

Girls’ Lacrosse

The Morgan girls’ lacrosse team had a pair of games on the slate and picked up wins in both contests to improve to 4-0 on the season.

On April 19, Morgan hosted Cromwell and secured an 18-3 win. Morgan took a 14-2 lead heading into halftime, and in the second half Morgan outscored Cromwell 4-1.

Carley Schmidt provided six goals and an assist, while Maeve Madura added three goals and three assists. Brooke Carlisle supplied three goals and two assists, as did Lindsay Narracci. Cailan Stealhe notched two goals and an assist, while Ashley Reemsynder added a goal.

Morgan outshot Cromwell by a 27-5 margin. Marin Stopkoski made two saves in the win. Schmidt and Carlisle also pulled six draw controls.

Three days later, the Huskies earned a 13-9 road victory over Valley Regional. Morgan led 6-5 after the first half and outscored Valley 7-4 in the second half. Schmidt supplied five goals, while Narracci notched four. Madura scored three goals, and Carlisle had a goal and an assist. Clara Franzoni, Steahle, and Alexis Shields each added an assist.

Morgan outshot Valley by a 20-16 edge, and Stopkoski made eight saves in the victory. Carlisle and Schmidt had three draw controls each.

Boys’ Lacrosse

Morgan won one game and lost a pair of contests last week to move to 1-3 on the season.

On April 19, Morgan headed to Cromwell and grabbed a 14-3 road win against the Panthers. The next day, the Huskies lost a 16-4 home game against Valley Regional.

On April 24, Morgan dropped a 17-2 defeat against Hand.

Boys’ Golf

The Morgan golf team played a pair of matches last week and took home its first win of the year. With the split, the Huskies record moved to 1-2.

On April 19, Morgan grabbed a 185-208 home victory over Old Saybrook.

Morgan’s Jason Cohen came away with the medal with 37 strokes, just one over the par-36 front nine.

Nicholas Schmidt scored a 47, and Drew Nye had a tally of 49. Tyler Greenhouse ended up with a 52.

The next day, Morgan hosted Hand and took a 150-172 loss against the Tigers. Cohen turned in a tally of 39, while Schmidt scored a 43. Nye and Cole Crowley both ended up with 45 strokes.

Softball

The Huskies played three games last week and came away with a win and two losses for a 3-4 record on the season.

On April 19, the Huskies hosted North Branford and took a 16-0 loss. Alex Duval, Kacey Edwards, and Colleen Edwards each supplied a hit in the loss.

On April 23, the Huskies played a home doubleheader against Old Lyme and Old Saybrook. Morgan dropped its game against Old Lyme by a score of 7-4. Old Lyme came out strong scoring two runs in the top of the first, and four more runs in the second to make it 6-0. After the Wildcats took a 7-0 lead in the fourth, Morgan started to battle back with three runs in the bottom of the fifth and one more run in the bottom of the seventh to draw the score to 7-4.

Bianca Arias went 2-for-3 with a run scored, and Courtney Vause went 2-for-3. Alyssa Maikowski went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Colleen Edwards went 1-for-4 and scored a run. Sydney Giuliano was 1-for-3 with a run. Sydney Robinson, Eva O’Sullivan, Angelina Herbst, and Kacey Edwards all notched hits in the loss.

Against Old Saybrook, Morgan grabbed an 8-0 victory. The Rams scored two runs in the bottom of the first, four runs in the fourth, and two more in the sixth. Kacey Edwards was 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI. Colleen Edwards went 1-four-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Vause went 1-for-3 with a run, and Giuliano was 1-for-2 with a run. Robinson had two hits and a run. Herbst and Passante also notched hits in the win.

Baseball

Morgan scored a win and two losses last week to move its record to 2-5 on the year.

On April 19, Morgan headed to North Branford and took a 3-1 loss to the Thunderbirds.

North Branford put the first run on the board in the bottom of the first inning, and the Huskies tied it up in the top of the second. North Branford would go on to add runs in the fourth and fifth innings to get to the 3-1 final.

On April 23, the Huskies were at Old Lyme where they lost 1-0.

The next day, Morgan earned a 5-4 road victory against Old Saybrook.

Boys’ Tennis

Morgan played three matches and came away with their first win the year to go with two losses. Morgan’s record moved to 1-5 on the season.

On April 19, the Huskies claimed a 5-2 home win over Old Saybrook.

The Huskies saw No. 1 singles player Joe Morse earn a 6-0, 6-0 win, while Tarik Hasic claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 2 position. At the No. 3 spot, Steve Kinser netted a 6-4, 6-2 win, and Nick Bausch snagged a 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 4 position. As for doubles, the No. 2 tandem of Damian Sevieri and Darren Abbott won a hard fought 5-7, 7-6, 6-1 victory.

On April 23, Morgan lost a 4-3 road contest at Haddam-Killingworth.

The next day, the Huskies hosted Old Lyme and took a 5-2 defeat. Morgan’s wins came from the Bausch (1-6, 7-6, 12-10) and a forfeit at No. 5 singles.

Girls’ Tennis

The Huskies played two matches last week and came away with a split to move to 4-2 on the year.

On April 19, the Huskies headed to old Saybrook, where they secured a 5-2 victory over the Rams. On April 23, Morgan hosted Haddam-Killingworth and took a 4-3 loss to the Cougars.
