T-Birds’ Boys’ Lacrosse Posts Two Road Wins; Softball Defeats East Hampton, 17-0

Boys’ Lacrosse

The North Branford boys’ lacrosse team improved to 2-1 on the year after earning a pair of road victories last week. The Thunderbirds defeated Old Saybrook (18-10) and Cromwell (16-3) in two away games in last week’s action.

North Branford started off the week by posting an 18-10 road victory against Old Saybrook on April 13. Senior Tyler Waligroski scored six goals and had three assists for North Branford in the win. Sophomore Jace Kamienski scored five goals on the day.

Freshman Luke Blomster scored three goals and had an assist for the T-Birds. Junior Joe Marra had two goals with two assists, while senior Ethan Raymond and junior Jake Palumbo both scored one goal. Sophomore goalie Dradon Brindisi made seven saves in net.

Two days later, North Branford was back on the road to face Cromwell. The T-Birds defeated the Panthers by a 16-3 score to earn their second victory of the season.

Girls’ Lacrosse

The North Branford girls’ lacrosse team opened up its spring season by playing three games last week. The Thunderbirds earned a 22-0 victory over Cromwell that was sandwiched between defeats against Old Saybrook and Cheshire for a 1-2 start to the year.

North Branford took an 8-7 home loss against Old Saybrook in its season opener on April 13. Two days later, the T-Birds hosted Cromwell and won the game by the final score of 22-0.

Senior Gabby Gibilisco scored six goals for North Branford in its win against Cromwell. Junior Olivia Toto also had a huge game by scoring five goals to go with five assists. Junior Braeden LeBeau had three goals with two assists, junior Marissa Raffone had two goals with one assist, freshman Sophia Toto also scored two goals, while freshman Keana Criscuolo had one goal with two assists.

Junior Grace Marra and sophomore Mia Park both had one goal and one assist for North Branford. Sophomore Mea Riordan added a goal, and senior Zoe Miller chipped in with an assist. Senior goalie Sofia Votto made five saves in net for the T-Birds.

North Branford then took a 16-4 defeat at Cheshire in its last game of the week. Gibilisco scored two goals for North Branford. LeBeau had a goal with an assist, Olivia Toto scored a goal, and Marra had an assist.

Softball

The North Branford softball team split a pair of games last week to move to 2-1 in the 2021 season. The T-Birds took an 11-4 loss to Haddam-Killingworth before bouncing back with a 17-0 victory against East Hampton in recent action.

North Branford dropped an 11-4 decision against H-K in a home game on April 12. Junior Bella Hills hit a triple for the T-Birds in the contest.

Two days later, North Branford claimed a 17-0 road victory versus East Hampton. Freshman Lindsey Onofrio had a big day at the plate by hitting two home runs and a single with five RBI and three runs scored for the Thunderbirds. Senior Erica Piercey also hit a homer to go with a double, two RBI, and a pair of runs scored. Junior Hanna Senerchia was 4-for-4 with a double, three singles, and four runs scored in the win. Freshman Kiley Mullins and Hills shared the pitching duties for North Branford.

Girls’ Tennis

The North Branford girls’ tennis team took two defeats last week and is now 0-3 on the young season.

On April 13, North Branford hosted Cromwell and lost by a 6-1 score. Senior Brianna Brezicki claimed a 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 victory for North Branford in the No. 3 singles matchup.

The next day, the T-Birds played a road match against Westbrook and took a 6-1 loss. Brezicki netted a 7-6, 6-2 win for the T-Birds in the No. 3 singles contest.

During the previous week, North Branford opened its season by losing a 4-3 home match versus Morgan on April 10. Senior Catie Dow posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles for the T-Birds. Senior Emma Serenson earned a 7-6, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles, while junior Dhruvi Patel notched a 7-6, 4-6, 7-6 victory at No. 3 singles for North Branford.
