Rams’ Girls’ Lacrosse Tallies Two Wins; Baseball Splits a Pair of Games


Girls’ Lacrosse

The Old Saybrook girls’ lacrosse squad played its first two games of the 2021 season last week.

On April 13, Old Saybrook headed to North Branford to battle the Thunderbirds. The Rams claimed a narrow 8-7 victory over North Branford.

On April 17, the Rams were off to Old Lyme to take on the Wildcats. Old Saybrook triumphed over Old Lyme by a score of 13-7.

The Rams were bolstered by a big game from Lily Cody, who provided four goals and three assists. Gilly Hartt added three goals in the victory, while Laura Day (2), Chelsea Heinke (2), and Maddy Beaudoin added goals as well. Grace Adams supplied a goal and an assist. Goalie Sam Wakeelee made nine stops in net.

Boys’ Lacrosse

Old Saybrook was only able to play one contest last week with the abundance of rain on the Shoreline. Still the Rams were able to face off against North Branford in their home opener. Old Saybrook lost the 18-10 contest against the Thunderbirds, and open the year with a 0-1 record.

On April 13, the Rams host North Branford and took an 18-10 defeat against the Thunderbirds. North Branford had a big first quarter outscoring the Rams 8-0, and Old Saybrook fell further behind in the second as the Thunderbirds outscored the Rams 5-3. With North Branford leading 13-3 at halftime, both squads played even with a 2-2 third quarter. Old Saybrook outscored the Thunderbirds 5-3 in the final frame, but North Branford came away with the 18-10 victory.

Baseball

The Old Saybrook baseball team played a couple of games against Old Lyme and Hale-Ray in its first full week of the spring season. The Rams came away from last week’s slate with a split. With these results, Old Saybrook moved to a 2-1 record on the year.

On April 12, the Rams hosted Old Lyme and claimed a 4-2 victory over the Wildcats.

On April 14, Old Saybrook hit the road to face Hale-Ray and dropped an 11-8 contest versus the Noises.

Boys’ Golf

The Rams played their first match of the 2021 season and lost the contest. Old Saybrook’s record moved to 0-1 to begin the campaign.

On April 13, the Rams faced off against Cromwell at the TPC River Highlands. Old Saybrook took a 194-220 road lass versus the Panthers.

A positive note was that Old Saybrook’s Garret Brady medalled in the match with his score of 38, which was the lowest tally on the day.

Boys’ Tennis

The Old Saybrook boys’ tennis squad had just a single match last week. The Rams took a loss in the contest and their record dropped to 0-2 on the season.

On April 14, Old Saybrook hosted Valley Regional and took a loss in a 7-0 sweep by the Warriors.

Girls’ Tennis

The Rams played two matches in last week’s action. Old Saybrook ended up with a pair of losses in the contest. With the defeats, the Rams’ record fell to 0-3 on the year.

On April 12, Old Saybrook played host to Coginchaug, and the Blue Devils claimed a 7-0 victory against the Rams.

Two days later, Old Saybrook headed to Valley Regional where they took a 7-0 defeat against the Warriors.
