Old Saybrook Baseball Claims Lopsided Win in First Contest; Tennis Teams Take Defeats


Baseball

The Old Saybrook baseball team opened up the season with a decisive road victory over Westbrook last week. The Rams started the 2021 season off with a 1-0 record.

On April 10, Old Saybrook hit the road to face off with Westbrook. The Rams claimed a 13-1 victory over the Knights. The Rams plated the first runs of the contest in the top of the second inning added another in the top of the third. Westbrook closed the gap to 3-1 with a run in the bottom of the third, but the Rams’ offense exploded in the fourth. Old Saybrook scored four runs in the top of the fourth, and added another pair in the fifth inning. The Rams put the final touches on the lopsided victory with four more runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Senior Gabe Kaar picked up the win on the mound for the Rams. Senior Joe Bradley cranked a home run in the win, and junior Jake Butler knocked a pair of doubles. Old Saybrook also saw doubles from junior Noah Hester, junior Nick Scalzo, and senior Kyle Colella.

Driving in runs for the Rams were Hester (2), Butler (2), Bradley (2), Scalzo, and junior Noah Grace. Old Saybrook also received stolen bases from Colella (2), Scalzo (2), Kaar, Grace, and junior Carson Brown.

Boys’ Tennis

The Rams hosted Old Lyme last week in the team’s opening match of the year. Old Saybrook took the loss in the match and moved their record to 0-1 to start the season.

On April 10, Old Saybrook took a 5-0 loss against the Wildcats.

Girls’ Tennis

The Rams headed to Old Lyme last week and played their opening match of the year. Old Saybrook ended up taking the a defeat against the Wildcats, which moved their record to 0-1 to begin the year.

On April 10, the Rams dropped their first match to Old Lyme by a score of 7-0.
