East Haven Girls’ Tennis Begins with a Win; Co-op Lacrosse Squad Drops Opener


Girls’ Tennis

The East Haven girls’ tennis team kicked off its spring season by playing a home match against West Haven last week. On April 10, the Yellowjackets hosted West Haven and prevailed by a 6-1 score at East Haven High School.

Senior Doreen Alberino notched a 6-0, 6-0 victory for East Haven in the No. 1 singles match. Junior Megan Povilaitis earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles for the Easties. Siya Patel claimed a 6-2, 6-1 victory in the No. 4 singles duel.

The Yellowjackets won all three doubles matches on their way to defeating West Haven. East Haven’s No. 1 tandem of senior Emily Sortito and junior Camryn Lendroth netted a 6-0, 6-1 victory; the No. 2 duo of junior Karlee Lynn and sophomore Izabella Olszewski won by a 6-1, 6-2 score; and the No. 3 tandem of senior Isha Patel and sophomore Diya Patel earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory.

Boys’ Lacrosse

The Branford-East Haven co-op boys’ lacrosse team squared off against Stamford in its first matchup of the 2021 campaign last week. On April 10, the squad hosted Stamford and took an 11-6 loss in the contest.

This spring marks the first year that Branford-East Haven is competing as a co-op team. The co-op was formed last year, but never had a chance to compete. Jim May is the head coach of the team.
