North Haven Teams Take a Few Defeats in First Week of Spring Season


Girls’ Lacrosse

After waiting for a full year to make his debut as head coach of North Haven girls’ lacrosse, Bernie Pellegrino finally got that opportunity when his team kicked off the 2021 spring season by playing a home game against Sheehan last week. On April 10, North Haven hosted Sheehan for its season opener and took an 11-5 loss against the Titans at North Haven Middle School.

Sheehan jumped out to an early 4-0 advantage, but North Haven battled back and scored a few goals to cut into the lead. Sheehan took an 8-5 lead into halftime and then scored all three goals of the second half to come away with an 11-5 victory.

Junior Shea Saracino scored three goals for North Haven in the game. Senior Gianna Mastroianni scored a goal, as did junior Eliza O’Connor. Junior goalie Hannah Sommer made eight saves in net for Coach Pellegrino’s club.

Girls’ Tennis

The North Haven girls’ tennis team started off its season by playing a road match versus Lauralton Hall last weekend. Head Coach Bob Migliorini’s team took a 4-3 loss versus the Crusaders at Eisenhower Park on April 10.

Junior Taylor Morris earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory in the No. 2 singles match for North Haven. Sophomore Risa Tobin prevailed by a 6-2, 6-0 score in the No. 3 singles duel. North Haven also received a victory from freshman Chandler Morris in the No. 4 singles match. Morris won a three-setter by the final tally of 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

Boys’ Tennis

John Higgins coached his first match as head coach of the North Haven boys’ tennis squad when the team hosted Fairfield Prep on April 10. North Haven dropped a 7-0 decision against the Jesuits in its season opener at North Haven Athletic Complex.
