North Haven Girls’ Hoops Loses to West Haven in SCC Semis


The North Haven girls’ basketball squad saw its season come to a close when the team took a loss against West Haven in the semifinals of the SCC Division II Tournament last week. No. 3 seed North Haven played at 2nd-seeded West Haven in the SCC semifinals on March 22 and lost to the Blue Devils by a 48-39 score. North Haven finished the year with an overall record of 8-6.

North Haven fell behind 13-4 after the first quarter when it faced West Haven in the SCC semis. The two teams played even basketball during the second quarter, scoring nine points apiece, and West Haven took a 22-13 lead into halftime.

The Blue Devils outscored North Haven 13-6 during the third quarter to extend their lead to 35-19 entering the fourth. North Haven won the final frame by a 20-13 margin, but West Haven was able to hang on and get the nine-point victory to advance to the championship game. West Haven went on to take a 55-39 loss to Sacred Heart Academy in the SCC Division II final.

Sophomore Julia Ball scored 12 points for North Haven in the game against West Haven. Fellow sophomore Emma Liedke had nine points in the loss. Senior captain Sarah Puzone scored six points, while freshman Ava Johnson added five points.

Puzone earned a spot on the All-SCC East Division Team based on her performance for North Haven this season.

This marked the second-straight year that North Haven qualified for the playoffs with Head Coach Tom Blake. After going 7-5 in the regular season, North Haven claimed a 57-26 victory over Foran in SCC quarterfinals to advance to the semifinal round.
