The Valley Regional gymnastics team faced off against Haddam-Killingworth/Morgan/Hale-Ray this week, winning by a score of 124.45-122.85 at Flip Flop Gymnastics on March 13.
The Warriors had several competitors record some solid scores to propel them ahead of Haddam- Killingworth/Morgan/Hale-Ray. Sophomore Kendra Cika scored 8.45 on the vault, 7.0 on the beam, and 7.9 on the floor. Sophomore Isabella Giuliano notched an 8.4 on the Vault, 6.1 on the bars, 7.8 on beam, and 7.3 on the floor. Sophomore Lilly Glaski scored 7.3 in vault, and 4.5 on the floor, while sophomore Julie Hartt recorded 8.45 on vault, 6.3 on bars, and 6.5 on the floor.
Junior Chelsea Hayes scored 7.9 on vault, 6.4 on bars, 7.65 on beam, and 7.1 on the floor, while fellow junior Grace Jacaruso notched 8.65 on Vault, 7.2 on bars, 8.6 on beam, and 8.2 on the floor. Freshman Siena Joplin scored a 7.9 on the vault, 3.0 on bars, and 6.4 on the floor. Freshman Molly Manco scored 5.75 on the beam, and junior Erin Ward scored 7.5 on the bars and 8.55 on the beam.
Girls’ Basketball
The Valley Regional girls’ basketball team played just one game last week. The Warriors went up against Old Lyme and took a loss versus the Wildcats. The defeat dropped Valley’s record to 5-4 on the year.
On March 8, the Warriors headed to Old Lyme to take on the Wildcats and lost a close 43-40 nail-biter.
Old Lyme took the advantage early with a 12-4 first quarter showing, but undeterred, the Warriors played tough in the second with an 11-10 effort and closed the gap slight to 22-15 at halftime. Both teams played even with a 13-13 third quarter, and Valley tried to mount the comeback in the fourth, but fell three points shy after outscoring Old Lyme 12-8 in the final frame. Valley lost the contest 43-40.
Sophomore Abby Bradbury put up a tremendous effort with 19 points in the loss. Senior captain Alena Crosby added 11 points, while freshman Olivia Cunningham supplied five points. Sophomore Lily Grow provided four points, and sophomore Elizabeth Allen added a point.
Girls’ Ice Hockey
The Hand/Coginchaug/Valley/H-K girls’ ice hockey team saw the lone game on its schedule get postponed last week as the team went into quarantine due to potential exposure to COVID-19.
The Tigers were slated to play Amity-North Haven-Cheshire on March 10, but the game has been postponed indefinitely. The team’s scheduled March 15 regular-season finale against Law/ND-Fairfield/Foran/Weston/Pomperaug has been canceled.
The Tigers have a record of 2-6 on the year.
