The Old Saybrook boys’ basketball team had two games on the schedule last week. The Rams went up against Cromwell and East Hampton and took defeats in both games. The losses moved Old Saybrook’s record to 5-5 on the campaign.

On March 8, the Rams hosted Cromwell and took a 53-36 home loss against the Panthers.

Old Saybrook took and early 14-9 advantage in the first quarter, but in the second quarter, the Rams offense was stifled, leading to Cromwell’s 19-16 lead at the half. Old Saybrook closed Cromwell’s advantage to a single tally at 32-31 to close the third quarter, but Cromwell went on a run with a 22-5 fourth quarter resulting in the 53-36 final score.

Sophomore Ryan Stratton put on a strong scoring display with 21 points, while fellow sophomore Aaron Tolve added six points. Auggie Albert scored five points, and junior captain Riley Lawson added two points.

On March 11, the Rams headed to East Hampton to take on the Bellringers and took a 62-52 loss.

Old Saybrook held a slight 12-10 edge after the first quarter, but East Hampton took a 30-22 lead by the end of the first half. In the third quarter, the Rams fell further behind after the Bellringers posted a 20-10 advantage for a 50-32 lead heading into the final frame. Old Saybrook fought back with a 20-12 fourth quarter, but were unable to close the gap. East Hampton secured the 62-52 final tally.

Stratton had another solid effort, scoring 15 points for the Rams. Senior captain Ben Yost put a dozen points through the net, and Lawson supplied nine points in the defeat. Senior Peter Waida scored seven points, as did Aaron Tolve. Owen Tolve added two points.

The Rams’ schedule last week consisted of a pair of games against Cromwell and East Hampton. Old Saybrook dropped both contests, and those losses resulted in the Rams’ record moving to 2-8.

On March 8, Old Saybrook headed to Cromwell and took a 58-33 road loss. Old Saybrook held narrow 14-12 lead after the first quarter, but the Panthers roared back in the second quarter to take a 28-20 edge by halftime. In the third quarter, Cromwell extended its advantage to 43-28 and added to that lead in the fourth to reach the 58-33 final.

Junior Mackenna Cooke scored nine points for the Rams, while fellow junior Ella Hagelston added seven points. Junior Lily Cody scored six points, and seniors Abigail Bergeron and Priscilla Gumkowski had five points apiece. Senior Kayla Holt added a point.

Three days later, the Rams hosted East Hampton and took a 64-14 home loss to the Bellringers. East Hampton leapt in front with a 19-6 first quarter and extended that lead to 35-6 at halftime. The Bellringers continued to expand on their lead in the second half en route to their 64-14 win.

Cody provided 11 points, while junior Beldina Feratovic and senior Molly Henderson added two points and one point, respectively.
