H-K’s Basketball Teams Earn Wins Versus Westbrook

Girls’ Basketball

The H-K girls’ basketball team earned its second win of the year by defeating Westbrook last week. The Cougars also took a close loss to Portland to put their record at 2-8 on the campaign.

On March 8, H-K played a road game against Westbrook and doubled up the Knights by a 50-25 final. Three days later, the Cougars hosted Portland and were edged out by a 45-43 score.

H-K is facing Old Saybrook and Morgan in its last two games of the regular season this week, after which the Cougars are scheduled to play in the Shoreline Conference Tournament.

Boys’ Basketball

The Haddam-Killingworth boys’ basketball team moved to 5-5 on the season after earning a split of two games last week. The Cougars notched a win versus Westbrook before taking a loss to Portland in recent action.

In its first game of the week, H-K defeated Westbrook by a 60-43 score in a home game on March 8. Sophomore Mason Gorham had a big night by scoring 33 points to go with 13 rebounds in the victory. Sophomore Tate Callender added eight points for H-K.

Three days later, the Cougars were on the road to face Portland and lost by a 54-50 score. Senior Jimmy McGoey scored 15 points for the Cougars. Gorham had 10 points, Callender scored nine points, and senior Alec Erskine had seven points.

H-K will face Morgan in its regular-season finale on Thursday, March 18. After that, the Cougars are slated to compete in the Shoreline Conference Tournament that gets underway this week.

Boys’ Ice Hockey

The Rocky Hill/Plainville/H-K boys’ ice hockey squad took on Enfield-East Granby-Stafford for an away game on March 10. The team claimed a 3-1 victory at Enfield Twin Rinks to improve to 2-5 on the season.

Gymnastics

The Haddam-Killingworth/Morgan/Hale-Ray gymnastics squad had a competition against Valley Regional last week. The team lost its matchup against Valley Regional by the score of 124.45-122.85 at Flip-Flop Gymnastics on March 13. H-K/Morgan/Hale-Ray now has a record of 4-1 on the year.
