Westbrook’s Basketball Squads Drop a Few Contests

Boys’ Basketball

The Westbrook boys’ basketball team had two games on its slate last week. The Knights took two losses in contests against Cromwell and East Hampton, and Westbrook’s record moved to 1-7 on the season.

On March 1, the Knights lost a road contest against Cromwell by a scored of 77-51. The Panthers outscored Westbrook 22-8 in the first quarter, and by the end of the half, Cromwell had 44-24. The Panthers built on their advantage by outscoring the Knights 23-10 in the third quarter, and in the fourth, Westbrook was only able to narrow the lead slightly to get to the 77-51 final.

Jack Naccarato supplied 21 points, while Joey Caslin scored 10 points for the Knights. Brandon Naccarato added nine points in the loss.

Three days later, Westbrook hosted East Hampton, and the Knights took a 63-37 to the Bellringers.

Girls’ Basketball

The Knights played a three games last week and took two losses on the slate. Westbrook had contests against Cromwell and East Hampton, and the Knights’ three losses brought their record to 0-8 on the year.

On March 1, Westbrook hosted Cromwell and took a 62-23 home loss against the Panthers. Cromwell ended the first quarter and extended its lead to 35 points by the half. Westbrook was unable to close the gap in the second half, resulting in the 63-23 final.

Jami Sacco provided 19 points for Westbrook in the defeat.

Three days later, the Knights dropped a 55-24 road contest versus East Hampton. Westbrook fell behind 18-1 in the first quarter, and trailed 30-7 by halftime. The Bellringers extended their advantage over the course of the second half to eventually claim the 55-24 win.

Sacco scored 10 points in the loss, while Adrianna Stranieri added nine points.

On March 6, Westbrook headed to Deep River to take on Valley Regional. The Knights took a 72-35 loss in the contest. Westbrook fell behind 22-11 in the first quarter, and Valley extended its lead to 43-23 in the second frame. The Knights ultimately took the 72-35 loss as the Warriors further built upon their edge in the second half.
