Old Saybrook Girls’ Hoops Loses Three Games on the Week


The Old Saybrook girls’ basketball squad played a trio of games last week. The Rams dropped contests against North Branford, Valley Regional, and Hale-Ray on the slate. The losses moved Old Saybrook’s record to 2-6 on the season.

On March 1, the Rams hosted North Branford and took a 52-39 loss against the Thunderbirds. Old Saybrook fell behind 14-8 in the first quarter, and North Branford added to its advantage in the second quarter for a 30-20 lead at halftime. After the Thunderbirds outscored the Rams 22-19 in the second half, Old Saybrook ended up losing the game by a 52-39 final.

Priscilla Gumkowski tallied 15 points in the loss, while Mackenna Cooke added eight points for the Rams. Beldina Feratovic and Lily Cody scored six points apiece. Ella Hagelston and Sophia Barker each scored two points.

Three days later, the Rams lost a 62-37 home contest against Valley Regional. In the first quarter, Old Saybrook fell behind 19-9, and by the end of the first half, the Warriors increased its lead to 31-19. The Rams were unable to close the gap in the second half en route to the 62-37 loss.

Gumkowski led Old Saybrook with 11 points, and Cody and Feratovic each had eight points. Cooke and Hagelston scored four points apiece, while Meghan Wilcox added two points.

On March 6, Old Saybrook took a 43-37 road loss to Hale-Ray.
