H-K Boys’ Hoops Notches Two Wins; Girls Get First Victory

Boys’ Basketball

The Haddam-Killingworth boys’ basketball team leveled its record at 4-4 after winning both games on last week’s schedule. The Cougars defeated Hale-Ray and then earned a win versus Coginchaug in recent action.

On March 1, H-K played a road game against Hale-Ray and prevailed by the final score of 80-52. Sophomore Mason Gorham led the Cougars with 26 points, seven rebounds, and six assists in the victory. Senior Alec Erskine scored 17 points for H-K. Senior Tony Giambanis had nine points, while senior Ronnie Scarpa and sophomore Kevin Harrison added seven points apiece.

Three days later, the Cougars hosted Coginchaug and claimed a 61-57 victory. Gorham had another big game with 18 points for the Cougars. Erskine scored 13 points to contribute to H-K’s winning effort.

Girls’ Basketball

The H-K girls’ basketball team recorded its first win of the season by defeating Hale-Ray in a home game last week. The Cougars also took a loss to Coginchaug for an overall record of 1-7 on the year.

H-K got in the win column by earning a 45-29 home victory against Hale-Ray on March 1. Then on March 4, the Cougars dropped a 36-24 decision to Coginchaug in a road game. Sophomore Payton Yazmer scored eight points for H-K in the loss. Fellow sophomore Kaleigh Bodak had six points.

Boys’ Ice Hockey

The Rocky Hill/Plainville/H-K boys’ ice hockey squad faced off against Woodstock Academy for a road game on March 6. The team took a 3-1 loss at RoseGarden Ice Arena in a Norwich to move to 1-5 on the campaign.
