North Branford Girls’ Hoops Posts Win Over Portland; Boys’ Hockey Team Goes into Quarantine


Girls’ Basketball

The North Branford girls’ basketball team gained a split of two games last week to put its record at 2-4 for the season. The T-Birds lost to East Hampton and then came back with a win versus Portland in recent action.

North Branford took a 40-33 road loss against East Hampton on Feb. 22. Junior Braeden LeBeau scored 16 points to go with 15 rebounds and four assists for North Branford in the game. Senior Erica Piercey and junior Delaney Norman scored five points apiece.

Four days later, the Thunderbirds traveled to Portland to play a road game. North Branford notched its second win of 2021 by earning a 60-56 victory versus Portland. Freshman Keana Criscuolo scored 20 points and recorded two steals for the T-Birds. LeBeau had 15 points and 10 rebounds to help North Branford prevail. Piercey scored two points, grabbed 10 boards, and dished out nine assists. Junior Marissa Ricardo scored 13 points to go with four rebounds and two steals.

Boys’ Basketball

The North Branford boys’ basketball team lost two contests last week and is now 0-6 on the year.

On Feb. 22, North Branford took a 42-28 defeat versus East Hampton in a home game. Senior Trevor Holzer scored 13 points for the T-Birds in the contest. Junior Jake Saldutti scored five points for North Branford.

Then on Feb. 26, the T-Birds hosted Portland and lost to the Highlanders by an 80-36 final.

Boys’ Ice Hockey

The North Branford boys’ ice hockey team defeated Amity for its first win of the season and then took a loss against Branford in recent action. The T-Birds have a record of 1-3 on the year.

North Branford picked up its first victory with a 6-3 road win over Amity at Bennett Rink on Feb. 20. Then on Feb. 22, the T-Birds hosted Branford for a game at Northford Ice Pavilion and lost by a 7-3 score.

North Branford’s scheduled Feb. 27 game versus North Haven was postponed after the T-Birds went into quarantine due to potential exposure to COVID-19. The T-Birds’ game against Hand that was slated for March 3 has also been postponed. The next contest on North Branford’s schedule is versus the East Haven co-op at Northford Ice Pavilion on Wednesday, March 10.
