Knights’ Basketball Teams Lose a Few Games


Girls’ Basketball

The Westbrook girls’ basketball team lost two road games last week to move to 0-5 on the year.

On Feb. 22, Westbrook took a 55-27 road loss against Coginchaug. Junior Jami Sacco scored 24 points for Westbrook in the game.

Then on Feb. 24, the Knights played a road game versus Portland and took a 45-32 defeat. Westbrook was in the game at halftime, facing a 19-17 deficit, but Portland outscored the Knights in both the third (14-6) and fourth (12-9) quarters to come away with the victory.

Sacco and freshman Adriana Stranieri each scored 10 points for Westbrook. Junior Alexandra Zanzalari scored six points for the Knights.

Boys’ Basketball

The Westbrook boys’ basketball team took three home losses last week and is now 1-5 on the season.

Westbrook started off the week by taking a 61-51 defeat against Coginchaug in a home game on Feb. 22. Two days later, the Knights hosted Portland and lost the contest by a 65-42 score.

Then on Feb. 26, Westbrook took a 53-39 loss versus Valley Regional at home. Westbrook was only down 24-23 at halftime, but Valley outscored the Knights 19-6 in the third quarter to pull away for the win.

Senior Jack Naccarato scored 13 points for Westbrook. Junior Joe Caslin scored 11 points, and sophomore Brandon Naccarato had 10 points in the loss.
