Boys’ Ice Hockey

The Branford boys’ ice hockey team earned a 7-3 home victory against North Branford in an away game at Northford Ice Pavilion on Feb. 22. It was the first win of the season for the Hornets and put their record at 1-2 on the year.

Branford trailed North Branford 1-0 after the first period, but outscored the Thunderbirds by a 4-1 margin in the second to bring a 4-2 lead into the third. The Hornets then put up three goals to North Branford’s one in the final frame to come away with the 7-3 victory.

Senior Billy Linder scored two goals, sophomore Mike Farricielli and sophomore Matt Morgan both had a goal with an assist, and senior Declan Ross also scored a goal for the Hornets. Senior Sawyer Moriarty contributed an assist in the win.

Branford was also scheduled to play games against the East Haven co-op and Amity last week, but both contests were postponed after the Hornets were forced to go into quarantine due to potential exposure to COVID-19. Branford’s scheduled games versus Hand and Sheehan that were slated to be played on Friday, March 5 and Saturday, March 6, respectively, have also been postponed. The next game on the Hornets’ schedule is a home game against Watertown-Pomperaug at Northford Ice Pavilion on Tuesday, March 9.
