East Haven Boys’ Hoops Wins 2 of 3; Hockey Squad Loses to Milford

Boys’ Basketball

The East Haven boys’ basketball team improved to 3-2 on the season by winning two of its three matchups last week. The Yellowjackets earned a win versus Cheshire, took a loss to Sheehan, and then defeated Hamden in the final game of the stretch.

East Haven started off its week by claiming a 50-44 victory in Cheshire on Feb. 22. Senior Nick Furino scored 17 points for the Yellowjackets, while fellow senior Alias Ford had 16 points in the victory.

Two days later, the Yellowjackets took a 57-52 home loss against Sheehan. Ford scored 14 points for East Haven. Fellow seniors Ian Reynolds and Nick Furino had 13 points apiece. Senior Trey Garea added six points on the night.

The Easties wrapped up their week by posting a 50-39 victory over Hamden in an away game on Feb. 26. East Haven held a 19-17 edge over the Green Dragons at halftime. The Yellowjackets then outscored the Hamden 18-9 in the third quarter to bring a 37-26 lead into the fourth on their way to the win.

Furino had a big game by pouring home 21 points for East Haven. Reynolds and Garea both scored nine points, while Ford had seven points to contribute to the victory.

Boys’ Ice Hockey

The East Haven co-op boys’ ice hockey squad played one game last week when the team squared off with the Milford co-op on Feb. 27. The Yellowjackets took a 3-2 loss in the contest at Milford Ice Pavilion to move to 0-4 on the year.

Old Saybrook senior Cory Benni scored a goal for East Haven in the game. Fellow senior David Amatruda also scored a goal. Junior goalie Ethan Roach of East Haven made 12 saves.
