Morgan Boys’ Hoops Posts Two Convincing Wins; Gymnastics Off to Solid Start

Boys’ Basketball

The Morgan boys’ basketball team notched lopsided victories over North Branford and Valley Regional in last week’s action. With these results, the Huskies stand with a record of 4-0 in the 2021 winter season

Morgan started off its week by earning a 75-34 win at North Branford on Feb. 16. The Huskies outscored North Branford 26-2 in the first quarter and never looked back against the Thunderbirds. Morgan went on to win the second (26-12), third (18-12), and fourth (13-11) quarters on its way to the 41-point victory.

Senior Zach Johnson scored 14 points for Morgan in the win. Fellow senior Rob Zirlis had 11 points, and junior Connor Duffy scored 10 points to help the Huskies prevail. Junior Andrew Nye and senior Cameron Carlson both had eight points, while junior Alexander Fratamico scored seven points in the victory.

Then on Feb. 20, the Huskies hosted Valley Regional for a game at The Morgan School. Morgan claimed an 85-53 win versus the Warriors for the team’s fourth win in as many games this year. Johnson scored 19 points, senior Jason Cohen had 18 points, and Zirlis netted 17 points in the victory. Nye scored eight points, while Fratamico contributed seven points for Head Coach Frank Rossi’s squad.

Gymnastics

The Haddam-Killingworth/Morgan/Hale-Ray co-op gymnastics team competed against Valley Regional at Flip-Flop Gymnastics in its first three meets of the season. The squad claimed a 123.30-119.85 victory on Feb. 13, posted a 128.75-123.30 win on Feb. 15, and prevailed by a 124.80-118.50 score on Feb. 20 to start the year at 3-0.
