Guilford Boys’ Hoops Edges Cheshire in OT; Girls Take Two Defeats

Boys’ Basketball

The Guilford boys’ basketball team moved to 2-2 on the season after gaining a split of last week’s matchups. The Grizzlies earned an overtime victory versus Cheshire before taking a defeat to Wilbur Cross in recent action.

On Feb. 16, Guilford hosted Cheshire and defeated the Rams by a 50-47 score in overtime. The contest was knotted at 46-46 entering the OT period, where the Grizzlies outscored Cheshire by a 4-1 margin to emerge victorious.

Senior Jack Ciocca scored 15 points for the Guilford in the win. Sophomore Justin Hess had 12 points, senior Jack Stanton scored eight points, and senior Jackson Tandler added five points for Head Coach Jeff DeMaio’s squad.

Then on Feb. 20, Guilford played a road game against Wilbur Cross and dropped a 59-47 decision to the Governors.

Girls’ Basketball

The Guilford girls’ basketball team took two defeats last week and is now 0-4 this season.

On Feb. 17, Guilford took a 46-40 road loss to Cheshire. Senior Moira Kellaher scored 15 points for the Grizzlies, while junior Faith O’Donnell had 13 points in the game. Sophomore Ava Lepro contributed five points on the night.

Three days later, Guilford took a 50-40 defeat to Wilbur Cross in a home game. Kellaher scored 18 points to lead the Grizzlies. Junior Miabella Diaz had nine points in the contest.

Boys’ Fencing

The Guilford boys’ fencing team competed against Hand for a home match on Feb. 20. Guilford earned a 16-11 victory against the Tigers, led by a 5-4 win from its sabre team and a 7-2 victory from its épée team. The Grizzlies’ foil squad lost to Hand by a 5-4 final.

Girls’ Fencing

The Guilford girls’ fencing squad took a 15-12 home loss to Hand last week. The Grizzles’ sabre team claimed a 7-2 win over the Tigers in the matchup. The foil team took a 7-2 defeat, and the épée squad lost by a 6-3 score.
