East Haven Girls’ Hoops, Boys’ Hockey Each Take Two Defeats

Girls’ Basketball

The East Haven girls’ basketball squad dropped road games against Daniel Hand and West Haven in last week’s action. The Yellowjackets are now 0-4 on the year.

East Haven started off its week by taking a 63-30 defeat at Hand on Feb. 16. Senior Erin Curran scored 10 points for East Haven in the game. Freshman Juliana Iovino scored eight points, while junior Kate Pycela had six points in the loss.

Four days later, the Yellowjackets played a game at West Haven and lost to the Blue Devils by a 58-40 score. East Haven held a 41-40 lead entering the fourth quarter, but West Haven outscored the Yellowjackets 18-9 in the final frame to get the win.

Curran scored 15 points, and Iovino had 11 points in the contest. Senior Taylor Salato, sophomore Arielle Dupree, freshman Gianna Castellano, and Pycela scored six points apiece for East Haven.

Boys’ Ice Hockey

The East Haven co-op boys’ ice hockey team moved to 0-3 on the season after taking two defeats last week. The Yellowjackets lost to Amity and Lyman Hall in last week’s action.

On Feb. 15, East Haven dropped a 4-2 decision to Amity at Bennett Rink. Junior Duncan Rider scored the Yellowjackets’ first goal of the game on assists from senior David Amatruda and senior Rocco Plano. Senior Chad Feola netted the team’s second goal of the game on an assist by sophomore Dylan Ingram. Junior goalie Ethan Roach made 37 saves in net for East Haven.

On Feb. 20, the Yellowjackets faced Lyman Hall at Northford Ice Pavilion and lost the game by a 4-1 score.
