Knights’ Basketball Squads Drop First Contests

Girls’ Basketball

The Westbrook girls’ basketball squad opened their 2021 campaign with an away game against Hale-Ray. The Knights took a 39-32 loss against the Noises on Feb. 12, and they started the season with a record of 0-1.

Hale-Ray jumped out to an early lead with a 14-2 first quarter and maintained a 21-12 advantage by the end of the first half. After the third quarter, the Noises held a 29-17 edge. Westbrook went on a run in the fourth quarter, but were unable to close the gap further than 39-32 for the final score.

Junior Jami Sacco led the Knights in scoring with 13 points. Sophomore Adriana Stranieri scored eight points, while junior Gianni Salisbury scored six points.

Boys’ Basketball

The Westbrook boys’ basketball team began the 2021 season with a tough loss. The Knights hosted Hale-Ray for their home opener and took a 70-60 defeat against the Noises on Feb. 12. Westbrook begins the season with a 0-1 record and look for their first victory in games against Old Lyme and Old Saybrook this week.
