On Nov. 14, athletes in the North Haven Post 76 American Legion baseball program once again participated in the Veterans Day Project by raking leaves for some local veterans. This was the seventh-straight year in which North Haven’s players honored veterans for their service by participating in the Veterans Day Project, an annual event in which groups in North Haven rake leaves for veterans in town.

The players who participated in the Veterans Day Project this year include Robert Farrelly, Ryan Bauman, Christopher Tobin, Alexander Bauman, Mike Anquillare, Dante Velez, Michael Brandt, Antonio Fusco, Derek Novicki, Ty Rooney, Nathen Lopez, Derek Mortali, and Nicholas Judd.

“Playing baseball for Charlie Flanagan and American Legion has been a great experience, and it shows,” said Lopez. “Coming out as a team for a great cause just adds to the experience.”

North Haven’s athletes were accompanied by Charlie Flanagan, the general manager of Post 76 American Legion baseball, along with coaches Luca Lawrence and Kevin Lucey; team parents Mike Brandt, Sr., Tom Farrelly, and Greg Tobin; and Bill Barbour, who helps out with the team as a volunteer.

“I never knew that we had so many brave men and women who served our country living here in North Haven,” Mikey Brandt said. “It was great to spend some time with them today.”
