The East Haven-Wilbur Cross (EH-WC) girls’ swimming and diving team notched several first-place finishes when the Yellowjackets participated in the Southern Connecticut Conference Division II Virtual Championship that took place from Oct. 26 to Nov. 10.

This year, due to restrictions in place as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the SCC Championship did not take place as it typically would with all the teams competing at one site. Instead, the 17 teams in the SCC competed at their respective home pools, after which the performances in every event were ranked in order score out the team standings for Division I and II, as well as the SCC overall. EH-WC finished in fifth place with 525 points scored for the Division II meet and finished 11th in the SCC with 372 points scored for those standings.

Junior Norah Rome took first place in both the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle for the Yellowjackets at the SCC Division II Championship. Rome swam a time of 1:55.57 in the 200 freestyle to finish first in the division and third for the SCC outright. In the 500 freestyle, Rome posted a time of 5:05.58 to finish first in the Division II Championship and second in the SCC Championship.

Sophomore Julia Rosado claimed first in the 100 backstroke at the divisional championship by swimming a time of 1:01.95. That time was also good for a fifth-place finish in the SCC Championship. Rosado also recorded a time of 26.34 in the 50 freestyle to place second in the division and 15th for the conference.

East Haven also saw its 400 freestyle relay of senior JJ Jim, freshman Kim Kate, Rosado, and Rome take first place at the Division II Championship. The Yellowjackets’ quartet finished with a time of 3:56.21 to earn first place in the divisional meet and sixth place in the conference.

Kim finished second in the division for the 100 butterfly and was 14th in the SCC with her time of 1:05.11. Kim also notched a mark of 2:21.63 in the 200 individual medley to finish fourth in the division and 11th in the conference.

Kate went a time of 27.69 in the 50 freestyle to place 10th in the division and 31st in the SCC. In the 100 breaststroke, Kate posted a time of 1:21.33 for 12th place in Division II and 29th place for the conference.

Senior Alora McCarroll finished 10th in the division and 32nd in the SCC for the 100 freestyle at 1:04.29. McCarroll also swam a time of 1:20.94 in the 100 breaststroke for 11th place in the division and 28th place in the conference.

EH-WHC’s 200 medley relay of Rosado, McCarroll, Kim, and Rome took third in the division and ninth in the SCC with a mark of 1:59.24. Those same four swimmers also joined forces for the 200 freestyle relay and finished with a 1:49.17 to take fourth place in the division and ninth place for the conference.
